@jake4480 oh god there were some hilarious anecdotes about them in Our Band Could Be Your Life — particularly one where they played a festival in the Netherlands and Haynes absolutely lost it — repeatedly.
@jake4480@cory Many, many years ago I set up a newsgroup for the Butthole Surfers. About a decade later, I got to meet them - King Coffey immediately remembered me, and they were generally extremely friendly.
The next day as I was waiting to go into the show, Coffey came up to me in the line and said, "Hey, Tom, how great to see you here!", and I could feel the envy from others. Petty, I know.

Haynes got wasted at this festival before their set, got beat up at Nick Cave’s set by the guitarist and bouncers and then ran through the festival grounds screaming obscenities, throwing beer bottles into the audience, got wasted again, jumped off the stage and knocked himself out during their set
@cory@jake4480 Oh, I can quite imagine! I saw the band for the first time in the 80s, he was like a man possessed. I expected he wouldn't last more than a few weeks, his face was the wrong color from too much alcohol.
I am very very happy that he outlived all my fears.

@tangleofwires this is such good news. Rembrandt is one of my favorites. Funny story, my parents sucked in a lot of way, but in others they were wild. For one birthday my little mom went to a record store and asked the guy for "Locust Abortion Technician". I can only imagine how amazing that must've been. 😂 I was so psyched to get it. I told her I was after Rembrandt Pussyhorse too. And she was like "I'm not asking anyone for that." 😂🤣😂😂🤣
@jake4480@tangleofwires My Gran and Nanny bought my first records, which were 'Freeze-Frame' by the J. Geils Band and 'Paradise Theater' by Styx, respectively. Up until my mid 20s, Styx was my favorite band of all time. That has changed somewhat, but I'm still a huge fan despite whatever gruff they get...
@wendigo@tangleofwires Styx! Heheh. I do love J Geils. Freeze Frame and Centerfold are still two of the coolest songs ever written. They're in my mp3 collection and are often played loud in this house. 😀
