Dark Synth is awesome.

You probably don't know it, but it's basically electronic music for metalheads. Perturbator & Carpenter Brut play at Metal festivals. I can say it's also clear from the public at their concerts.

Originally, it grew from synthwave, but is much darker.

I'd say it's best described as being the sort of OST you'd imagine in a retrofuturistic thriller movie from the 80ies that would be set far in the future.

My favourite by far remains Perturbator, but Carpenter Brut also has great songs:

They are both French.

I really like Leather Teeth: https://carpenterbrut.bandcamp.com/track/leather-teeth

Beneath the fun/kitch 80ies synth sound, it's actually much harsher than e.g. harsh EBM, a style I know well (my girlfriend loves it) but which I've always found not hard enough for my tastes, especially compared to extreme metal styles (esp. the kick drum).

Perturbator, who as far as I know invented the style (already 10 years ago), is also at the forefront, making it evolve further.

New Model, in particular, is much harsher, leading us quite far from the original kitch retrofuturistic 80ies:

I love both the old and new albums. It's awesome live, btw. Make sure to get close to the stage :blobcatheart:

There are also newer bands for instance Hollywood Burns.
Also French (Décidément !).

The rest of their album is also great, if a bit crazy, in a good way :) (most are instrumental):

Regarding Carpenter Brut's take on Dark Synth in particular, I find it funny how this reminds me of Danny Baranowsky's videogame music. Also kick ass.

NB: It's also Danny Baranowsky who wrote the music for Super Meat Boy & The Binding of Isaac.
