"Speaker of the House of Representatives, Martin Bosma (PVV [extreme right]), intervened in a plenary parliamentary debate on Thursday. Volt MP Laurens Dassen was not allowed by him to call the PVV "extreme-right"."

"The term refers to national socialism, Bosma said: "I see it as a Nazi comparison". "I don't think we should label groups or members of the States General as extreme-right"

"It led to much criticism among MPs.

Dassen: "If we are not allowed to name this in parliament [that PVV = extreme right], it becomes very oppressive."

He thought the term was justified: "If you as a party have been casting suspicion on judges for years, calling journalists scum and saying of groups of Dutch people that they don't belong," that term is possible, Dassen said."

@GastonDorren

This is so incredibly outrageous and ridiculous.

Do you know what happens if MPs categorically refuse to comply?

Is the voorzitter actually in a position to censor whatever he does not like (especially comments regarding his own extreme right party)?
Surely, there must be limits.

The NRC article really ought to but doesn't talk about that.

turbobob,
@turbobob@mamot.fr avatar

@GastonDorren I am certainly not defending the voorzitter.

If you read my message, you can see that I actually deliberately said "his own extreme right party": precisely what he tried to censor. Notice how I also wouldn't have used the word "censor" if I had been defending the PVV as you initially thought.

That said, my questions were not rhetorical ones, but genuine: would you happen to know more about this? I am not sure where to look for this info.

In my view, the MPs should not comply.

Dit is zo eng en bedreigend voor de democratie, natuurlijk moet je PVV extreem rechts mogen noemen, net als je SP extreem links mag vinden.

Well, @mozilla should definitely make sure that it's off by default. Opt-in ONLY.

Maybe nobody will say yes, but hey that's the price of respecting your users: asking for their true consent.

Still. Most other browsers probably won't even ask you, warn you, nor even give you the possibility to opt out. I wouldn't trust most alternatives to respect my consent at all.

As Mozilla reminds you in that very blog post: you can easily opt out once and for all from any of these studies.

@Kzad_Bhat @boilingsteam @mozilla I don't see ill intent there; see the blog post.

My guess would be that they hear people insisting that awful stuff like Google products and other tools from privacy-nightmare specialists are "convenient" and "powerful".... And that they therefore now try to appeal to such users, doing it in a more privacy-respecting way than Google would use. Except that they might alienate people who already use Firefox.

Personally I love dumb tools. Let me do the thinking.

It's mostly symbolic; not full membership.

"Still, the resolution does provide new diplomatic perks to Palestinians.
➡️ [they] can now sit among member states in alphabetical order;
➡️ they can speak at General Assembly meetings on any topic instead of being limited to Palestinian affairs;
➡️ they can submit proposals and amendments;
➡️ and they can participate at U.N. conferences and international meetings organized by the Assembly and other U.N. entities."

Dark Synth is awesome.

You probably don't know it, but it's basically electronic music for metalheads. Perturbator & Carpenter Brut play at Metal festivals. I can say it's also clear from the public at their concerts.

Originally, it grew from synthwave, but is much darker.

I'd say it's best described as being the sort of OST you'd imagine in a retrofuturistic thriller movie from the 80ies that would be set far in the future.
