It’s not supposed to be that way. In most cases, the fourth amendment requires the government to have a court-approved warrant to obtain an American’s communications. But intelligence agencies have used Section 702 as a loophole that allows them to vacuum up and comb through communications between an American and a foreigner who can be targeted under the law – all without a warrant.
Spying and breaking the laws in the constitution is the only way these cowards can stay in power. You can bet they're franticly gathing data making lists in gearing up for the 2024 elections and the fallout from that. I'm not a Trumper but I would just say to the MAGA crowd "Do it to it!" Our politics are so broken that they're almost irrelelvent these days. I'm starting to think that the only way to defend the U.S. Constitution is to let politics fail completely.
In arguing for the reauthorization of Section 702 late last year, Turner, chair of the House intelligence committee, shockingly suggested in a closed-door briefing that the law could be used to spy on Americans protesting against the war in Gaza.
The spying law is messed up, but it’s also really messed up how many Western countries are trying to make it impossible for people to criticize the actions of Israel’s government.
