The foundations ARE indeed being laid for the USA to become extinct as a democracy, in fact I think really it's already happened. Fascist rhetoric disguised as nationalistic pride, banning books about truth under the guise of "protecting children."
I'm glad people where you are have the wherewithall to protests against these horrors, and I'm hopeful enough of us here are still good people to hang onto whatever shreds of decency remain. But they aren't many.
And America is about to enter a fascist regime that will make all others look like cakewalks by comparison - it's unavoidable.
