This worked out really poorly for them with the WiiU. I doubt they will do it again. So many people (including me) thought the WiiU was either an addon for the Wii or a connected upgrade thing. Personally, I thought it was something like the that genesis 32x thing.
Sometimes the Switch could be uncomfortable to hold for long periods. Perhaps they could use a lighter material and reduce the weight, making it a 3D Switch Extra Light, or 3DS XL.
It’s the purchase of video games that sustains Nintendo, and it is the games that make the people smile … It’s for that reason that we do all we can to prevent games on Nintendo systems from being stolen
Which is why the 75 billion dollar company absolutely had to go through all this trouble to ruin the life of an old man. They’re on a razors edge of near bankruptcy, after all! His having to send Nintendo 25 bucks a month while he was still in prison is our society in a nutshell. Thankfully ruining his life has stopped all Nintendo piracy so it was certainly worth the human cost.
Yeah there ought to be some designation that the damages amount is scaled to the comparative wealth between the parties.
Meaning if Nintendo claims 14,5 million in damages, and they have 70 billion in the bank while he has 120 dollars, he’d have to pay 120/70000000000 * 14500000 = 24 dollars and 85 cents. Thats the actual damage he caused to Nintendo, scaled to their wealth!
And the same goes in reverse. If Nintendo causes someone who owns ~80k total (that’s what I’m currently insured against) a damage of 300 dollar, then they’re liable for 262 million. That’s the equivalent amount against their wealth that they caused the other party given their wealth.
I wonder how quickly these ultra rich assholes would stop with their frivolous lawsuits.
So that means “you can damage a company in any way you want to, just don’t have money yourself”. I.e. people with molotovs destroying office buildings for fun, because in the end you need to pay 20 dollars for it.
Ah, I forgot to add this, but the damages part is from the civil suit. The criminal part would be unaffected of course. Hence the molotov part wouldn’t work like you imagine it. You still committed arson, and would probably go to jail for that.
As long as restitution is part of the criminal sentencing I’m good with that. The person needs to reimburse the victim for the cost it took to get back to where they were before the crime.
Yeah but that’s what I mean, scaled to what either party actually lost, given their wealth. If you cost Nintendo 14 mil, that’s rounding errors to them. If you cost a normal worker 14 mil, their life is forever ruined.
And that’s also the civil part, not restitution as part of a criminal sentence, I’m not sure he had to pay anything there.
You’re not reading what I’m saying. If someone totals my car and I’m so rich the loss of a normal class car doesn’t even register on a monetary level while they are already poor, I’m not furthering their poverty because frankly there’s no reason I should ever want to!
Meanwhile they’re still facing criminal charges for drunk driving and the accident, btw. It’s just about the rich not taking further money the poor already do not have.
I understand your point just fine. Your goal of protecting people from large corps is met but it doesn’t protect people from other people.
If a drunk driver hits you and has half your wealth you’re only getting half the value of your car. I doubt very much the 30 day license suspension and points on their license will make up for that.
Restitution only includes reimbursent to get them back to the state before the crime happened. It’s just for damages directly caused by the crime. In the case of piracy no direct damage occurs so there would not be $14m in criminal restitution.
TotK didn't deserve the Switch. It's crazy that the Switch, based on 10 year old hardware at this point, is still relevant and something that Nintendo feels comfortable selling for a foreseeable future. TotK will probably run better on an emulator very soon.
I hope the success of BotW and TotK doesn't mean we'll never get another traditional Zelda game.
I'm in the camp of people who love the traditional Zelda formula, and I was sorely disappointed with BotW to the point that I lost all interest in TotK and will probably not buy another zelda game if they continue the new formula.
Perhaps Nintendo could incorporate both formulas in some way, or maybe alternate between traditional Zelda and new Zelda games in the future?
They would need two different studios at that point: one developing the nostalgic style and the other continuing the BotW style.
As someone else mentioned BotW style with same map but different time is a similar formula which will work while they finish it their elements theme, but I'd l love to explore a whole new map too!
Yeah, I’m not sure how they’d even handle it or if it would be at all doable. The thing I disliked most about BotW is that there are no dungeons as there usually were, and you get all your “gadgets” from the get go. If Nintendo could perhaps work on those two aspects while keeping the open world, I might be more of a fan of the game.
They didn't have the gatekeepy "you need the hook shot to proceed here" thing but they do have a "you don't have a device you need for this bit yet, go figure out what dispenser has them and come back" instead. So it might be more your style.
As someone who has played every legend of Zelda (except the cdi ones), I never understood the desire for a set formula aside from nostalgia. Needing the double hookshot from a temple to complete a specific mini game and get a heart doesn't really add a ton of value to a game for me (though having your rewards for random nonsense be materials instead of something as meaningful as a heart DID make the mini games and quests feel a little less special).
Still. If Miyamoto said that he wanted Legend of Zelda to capture the feeling of being a kid and exploring the world and making up games for yourself, then BotW is the most true of the games to that vision. That said, I've loved every LoZ game so far... I guess I just have trouble understanding the fan boy desire for a set formula we've done a billion times.
I get what you're saying and I'd be disappointed if they stopped doing older style zelda games just like you. But I also the BotW and TotK are amazing games in their own right and you're missing out. You should give them a shot.
I did try BotW. Finished it, even. But I didn’t enjoy it, sadly, which leaves me in the position I’m in. I’m not inclined to try TotK given it is very similar to its predecessor.
Assuming we get a third game in the botw run, I would love to see link travel back to early Hyrule like Zelda did. Nintendo could use the blueprint of the depths ruins as the backbone for a thriving Zonai civilization. Aboveground would be a truly wild Hyrule similar to what the depths are now. No sky islands as this would predate their creation. Instead we could have a ‘dive’ feature that lets us visit an ancient Zora, spread out in the waters in and around Hyrule. All new characters (except maybe Raru and friends), but many characters could be ancestors of current characters so they would be familiar in some ways. I would love to see the ability to tame monsters, more complex Zonai devices, and yes, perhaps real dungeons.
Also I could even see a fourth game in this series that totally turns all of the formula on its head. It would actually star Zelda, and she would travel through time to different eras of Hyrule. We’d get to see areas and dungeons from ocarina of time, twilight princess, skyward sword and even many of the 2d titles, redesigned with botw graphics and controls. The focus of the game would be for Zelda to help Link. She must stay out of sight, navigate dungeons to place keys, compasses, maps and/or key weapons that the link of that era will need to defeat whatever evil he faces. I think this would be super cool.
Instead we could have a ‘dive’ feature that lets us visit an ancient Zora, spread out in the waters in and around Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: The Way of Water
In all seriousness though, this sounds amazing. There are so many unanswered questions from the BotW universe. It would be interesting to see another addition to the series.
Agh that’s too bad! In that case I’ll just say I want to know more details about the reward you get when completing all 152 shrines. So many questions!
The pre-existing game engine with a bigger world and couple of new mechanics, in other words.
Not that TotK, or that approach to sequels, is even bad: I just wish Nintendo did less furiously masturbatory self-back-patting about how revolutionary it supposedly is. It is what it is (an acceptable if underwhelming sequel IMO), and Nintendo is what Nintendo is - a bag of dicks.
IIRC it is actually a different physics engine than BotW. BotW couldn’t handle all the physics interactions in TotK. That’s what’s so impressive about the game. Physics-based games are rare, especially for AAA-developers, because it’s just a lot of work. In TotK everything just works as you’d expect. You’re just looking at it from a gameplay perspective while ignoring the technical achievements.
I wanna say yes but I haven’t even scratched the surface of emulating yet so I’m not sure: Still have an absolutely massive backlog of Steam games to play through. That said, I heard Emudeck is fucking fantastic!
Because he wasn’t talking about nintendo games, he was talking about the fact that the steam deck doesn’t have some proprietary cloud for all the games.
There are a lit projects that doesn’t disturb nintendo’s lawyers. Nintendo doesn’t like it it people make money with their brands, take money away from them or hurt nintendo’s reputation. The Pokemon fan project ura####, got shut down because they try to get money with it, but pokemon ######(not sure if against rules) online is a online none profit project that is online now for years. You just have to understand nintendo. Alternativ online server for nintendo games, seems to be fine with them.
So, everyone has been asking for Golden Sun for ages. For someone who knows nothing about them (other than watching the trailer above), anything I should know about them before starting them?
Don’t be afraid to backtrack when you learn new abilities, there’s a ton of stuff hidden everywhere, including things you can’t even see. Sometimes random NPC give you valuable information on how to progress or find a treasure.
If you get stuck, try to use your parties outside battle abilities, there certainly is a spot you missed.
Don’t mute the audio, the soundtrack is fantastic and addicting. Put it on loud.
The original games had a world map included each, I found it quite helpful to not get lost in the world map travel. You might want to find them online, best the original, even if it’s just a photo, as to not spoiler more than the original game did with it’s paper map. It just had you displayed the cities and geography but not more.
Sometimes backtracking can suck, especially if you walk all the way back from x to y through z, but don’t let it get you frustrated, it shouldn’t happen too often for the main story. Look at it as training, money farming and invitation to test for hidden paths you might have missed the first time. It’s always worth it.
Don’t expect to 100% the first time, stuff is really hidden well, but in a fair way. The game rewards experimenting by a good bit.
Enjoy and take your time. It’s my most favorite game ever.
Don’t be afraid to mess around with the class system and try out things beyond the default mono-elemental classes. There’s no penalty for changing your class setup every so often, or even after every fight
The second game has a secret dungeon that is unlocked by collecting all Djinns in both games. No Djinn is missable within their own game, but this obviously doesn't apply across games. You can miss 1 Djinn of each element in the first game and the second one will give you an opportunity to encounter them there to help you out, but that's the end of the leeway.
I probably won’t go for 100%. When specially trying / grinding for 100% on PS for trophies, it often burned me out of the games. So, now I only try that if I am REALLY enjoying the game, and even then if it start becoming frustrating I just leave it.
Luckily it isn’t a collectathon with hours and hours of junk scattered everywhere. Look up how many djinn there are before deciding if you don’t want to find them.
I don’t believe him. Why would Nintendo not be talking to important industry partners about upcoming console plans? I assume that every console vendor is talking to major developers to get feedback on prototypes and keep them in the loop about long term projections. Even if a new console is not coming soon, I am sure that development partners are getting updates on what the next console would be (and there is always a next console).
If a new console is coming soon, developers would need to know now if they have to budget for a Switch 2 porting team at some point in 2024 for a console launching in 2025. Launch titles need to start development well in advance.
As for the patent statement, his comment was obvious. Of course a patent does not mean that the technology is going to be used in an upcoming console.
Can they lie about this? Like I never know exactly up to which point they can hide certain things based on the fact they are a publicly traded company and misleading or liying to possible investors is usually a No No…
Outside of that, it would make sense… Like I see them announcing it around next spring with demos around the usual E3 dates and release before the holidays. So before that they would want to sell the OLED new models during this holidays, knowing a new one is coming doesn’t help with that.
Companies cannot lie in official investor relations statements. I don’t think they face the same level of scrutiny for media comments about unannounced future plans.
Even then, there are many ways that a leak can be factual but technically untrue. Maybe show off the Switch 2 prototype at the conference, we swung by their headquarters after the conference concluded or showed off the prototype in a hotel room across the street from the conference.
