FauxPseudo, (edited ) in As many as 10 patients dead from nurse injecting tap water instead of Fentanyl at Oregon hospital
@FauxPseudo@lemmy.world avatar

Water is more dangerous than fentanyl. Got it.

Edit: I meant this is a joke. Apparently this joke about water was a little too dry.

admiralteal,

Non-sterile tap water being injected to people who are pretty much definitionally very sick.

If you did that to a regular, healthy adult? Likely no big deal, though I certainly wouldn't recommend it. But to someone, say, recovering from a major surgery who's in a lot of pain? Extremely bad plan.

zipzoopaboop,

People here don’t have a sense of humour

wildginger,

Water is more dangerous then fent, in your blood.

So when you cut yourself or scrape your knee, dont rinse with water! Rinse with fentanyl. Its safer.

pozbo,

Got a list or map of the fentanyl springs in my area?

Walican132,

Check your downtown neighborhood is my bet.

Scubus,

Just move to Chicago. They got rid of their acid rain, now it’s just fentanyl rain

sbv, in As many as 10 patients dead from nurse injecting tap water instead of Fentanyl at Oregon hospital

“You don’t think of medical professionals doing this, but 10% of medical professionals divert drugs. 10%… That’s a lot.”

That’s an unbelievably high percentage.

Googling around, I see

One in 10 healthcare workers misuse drugs (or alcohol) during their career, which is similar to the percentage seen in the general population; however, the diversion trend is slightly different in healthcare, as workers in this setting are more likely to misuse prescription drugs rather than illicit drugs.

Which is very different from the quote in the article.

alienanimals,

I thought she was injecting them with water because she didn’t like them.

She was such an incompetent nurse that she switch the fentanyl for water because she wanted to steal the fentanyl? WTF. Literally anyone could go find that shit on the street in an hour if they wanted to. Hope this mass murderer gets the book thrown at them.

FfaerieOxide,
FfaerieOxide avatar

Literally anyone could go find that shit on the street in an hour if they wanted to.

Presumably because of people like her.

Corkyskog,

Lol no. You aren’t finding liquid medical grade fetanyl on the streets.

FfaerieOxide,
FfaerieOxide avatar

You aren’t finding liquid medical grade fetanyl on the streets.

Not if nurses keep getting themselves arrested.

Corkyskog,

The vast majority of them have a personal problem. Ganked Fent liquid would be really hard to sell…

FfaerieOxide,
FfaerieOxide avatar

The vast majority of them have a personal problem.

I mean if I kept getting arrested, I'd consider it a problem, too.

Corkyskog,

I guess, but you’re just directing words. All I am saying is any nurse who is doing this is almost certainly using it themselves or supplying their significant other. It’s just not even a practical way to use Fentanyl at home.

I don’t actually think most people are injecting Fentanyl or Heroin these days, the bigger group snorts it and when worse comes to worse they inject to get the even quicker rush, and with a better bioadvalability.

1847953620,

Our demand for nurses is high, and a key part to our current solution is to under-train them, and lower our standards for what it takes to be a nurse, to be about to pump out more at a fast rate.

Source: know a dozen nurses, some who have graduated as recently as this year. The questions in the exams they take are nothing short of ridiculous oftentimes, they’re just checking for a pulse, two brain cells, and a very vague gist of medical concepts behind the minimum on what it takes to know to perform the manual tasks of their job

Why do you think there were so many anti-vax nurses? It’s ignorance paired with the ego inflation they get from people assuming they are more knowledgeable than they are.

thisisawayoflife, (edited ) in Oregon lawmakers on what they learned from Portugal trip

I’m a little confused at this line:

Oregonians can see that Oregon’s version isn’t working. Open fentanyl use is visible in communities across the state, especially in Portland.

The fact someone uses in the open means that the decriminalization law is failing? That assertion seems like a massive leap in logic.

BarterClub,

People who don’t like drugs make that leap. Same people will make the logic to connect homelessness to drugs.

MrFappy, in 2 women say they plan to sue after Portland police mistook them for suspect, crashed into their car, held them at gunpoint

That sounds like a reasonable reaction to such an experience.

Nednarb44, in Turn your god damn headlights on when it’s raining

I’m in the camp that think cars headlights should basically work like motorcycle headlights. If the car is running, the lights are on. There’s basically no reason to have them off in general use, it only makes you more visible, even in nice weather.

AspieEgg,

That’s a requirement for cars sold in Canada, though I still see cars with their lights off frequently.

Kecessa,

Since 2021 only

SatanicNotMessianic,

Don’t all new cars have daytime running lights? I thought that was now standard. Hell, I thought it was required.

TheaoneAndOnly27,

My dad's 2018 Rav doesn't and I was shocked.

DeepFriedDresden,

That's weird because I have a base model 2018 Rav and it definitely does.

TheaoneAndOnly27,

It's possible I missed it and it somehow was turned off? Also, do you know how to change the settings for the windshield wipers?

DeepFriedDresden,

Set it to auto on the left lever's knob. And are you talking about the speed settings for the windshield wipers? It should be just pushing the right lever down. There are 4 positions, off-lo-med-hi. Hold up for a quick wipe, pull towards you for windshield washer fluid, and away from you for the rear windshield fluid.

Page 225

TheaoneAndOnly27,

Thank you for linking that! I drove over to my parents place today to take a look at my father's Rav and let him know. What's interesting is when I got in there it doesn't have the little rotating up and down for the windshield wipers when you put it into the INT setting. So I pulled out the manual from his glove box, and it shows the same picture as the manual you sent. But that part is just not there on his vehicle. So confused.

InEnduringGrowStrong,
@InEnduringGrowStrong@sh.itjust.works avatar

The manual suggests the intermittent wipers are an optional thing, which is bullshit if you ask me, but whatever.

tsonfeir,
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

Most newer ones have the “auto” feature, which typically involves a daytime light of some kind). Some people just turn it off.

danc4498,

But to the commenter’s point, why not just have them on all the time no matter what? Is there a disadvantage?

3ntranced,

Nope. The issue is many drivers don’t understand car electronics and that the alternator is constantly generating power as the car goes along. They turn it off thinking it will save battery life.

starman2112,
@starman2112@sh.itjust.works avatar

To be fair, power isn’t free. I think I remember reading that having headlights on reduces gas milage by something like 1% for LED bulbs and 5% for other types.

Edit: I was wrong, but not like super wrong. HowStuffWorks estimates it to be an average of 1%

Kase,

The only other reason I can think of is, would it make the headlights burn out fast? Not that it wouldn’t be worth it either way imo. Idk how much of a difference it would make on the lifespan, or if replacing headlights is even something people have to worry about all lol, pls bear with me I don’t drive

tsonfeir,
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

No.

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Canada requires it, US does not.

n3m37h,

The headlights, tail lights are a different story though. My car def can have the tail lights off at night. That’s not right at all

Blamemeta,

No we do. There was a short period a decade ago where they had it and we didn’t but thats not true anymore

Shadow,
@Shadow@lemmy.ca avatar

Google says otherwise. Maybe your state does, but it’s not federally mandated.

LordKitsuna,

There are a lot of cars where the daytime running lights are just little outer Halos and not actual headlights. I fucking hate these because people think their headlights are on and don’t realize that the back of their car is completely black at night because the back lights are not on only the front daytime running.

I don’t know what the fuck manufacturers were thinking with that, just fucking turn the lights on if the car is in Drive simple as that

RampantParanoia2365,

Don’t most cars have sensors to use the full lights at night? Holy shit, have I been driving with no lights at night???

LordKitsuna,

Only if they are in the auto position for the headlights, many of these cars even if they switch is set to off will still have those Halo running lights when turned on which people mistake for headlights because most of them are LED now and fairly bright. So they drive around with the back of their car completely dark but when you go to pass them you realize that they have their running lights on and it does look potentially like a set of headlights even though it’s not

SpeakinTelnet,
@SpeakinTelnet@sh.itjust.works avatar

Some countries have mandatory daytime running light (like Canada). I had an inspection on a 25+ years old car and had to Mumbo-Jumbo some relays in there to have my fog lights turn on when the car’s running but back to manual if my headlights were on.

ChickenLadyLovesLife,

I drive a school bus and we’re required by law to have our headlights and running/clearance/identification lamps on at all times. So why in the fuck do buses even have a switch for that shit that we have to remember to flick on every time we start the bus?

RampantParanoia2365,

…they do, nowadays. This is clearly a truck, and probably older.

Nednarb44,

They definitely don’t in the US. Most have automatic lights, sure. Maybe in the coming years we’ll catch up to other countries in that regard

Malfeasant,

“daytime running lights” are the worst. Makes the person think “my lights are on, I don’t need to do anything” but then it’s just front lights no taillights or corner lights.

sin_free_for_00_days, in National ‘embarrassment’: Judge sets 10-day deadline to release people held in jail without lawyer

NPR has covered this issue several times. It is really fucked up. Just reading/listening to how a rather innocuous crime has a ripple effect across many lives is awful.

We need to do so much better. Give petty criminals a break, remember that they are humans, and jail white collar crime which has a vastly larger impact on society.

GregoryTheGreat, in National ‘embarrassment’: Judge sets 10-day deadline to release people held in jail without lawyer

Right? 10 days is enough to cause people egregious harm.

Establishing a new state is very hard. Attempts to do so have been unsuccessful many times before:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_state_partition_proposals_in_the_United_States

It doesn’t help that this is not a large and popular movement. I have attended schools with more students than the resident populations of some of these counties. This is purely political theater by a relatively small group of people.

scoobford, in Greater Idaho movement: 13 counties in eastern Oregon have voted to secede and join Idaho - sh.itjust.works

Honestly, I get it. I totally disagree with their opinions, but living in a state where you know the votes of you and your community are effectively meaningless due to a distant, overwhelming majority sucks.

That being said…this isn’t how states should work. Independent administration for urban and rural areas would amplify the existing division in our country, which has already become a glaring problem in recent years.

Montagge,

It’s kinda funny, I imagine Idaho doesn’t want them; not least of all because it’s going to take them from looking like a melted rotated Oklahoma to looking like a middle finger emoji.

Hobbes_Dent, in Greater Idaho movement: 13 counties in eastern Oregon have voted to secede and join Idaho - sh.itjust.works

The shit-bill war.

Disclaimer: I’m a Canadian browsing new familiar with the story from a previous post. I claim no right to commentary except word play. But we have our own similar messes. That said, that line extends north past WA as far as political leanings go. IMHO.

superfes,

I live in OR, these people are stupid, they imagine the grass is greener on the other side, but small farmers and ranches are being strangled to death by GOP ideals in ID, they just don’t want to blame themselves.

They literally should just try Idaho for a year and see that what they actually do not want, is to be like Idaho.

PERSONAL GRIPE SECTION

As a resident of District 28, I absolutely fucking despise the Linthicums.

In 2016, Dennis Linthicum fradulently rigged the Republican primary election by conspiring with the current incumbents to deprive the district’s republicans a say in their choice of candidate. Mr Linthicum filed for the primary minutes before the deadline closed, then the incumbents suspended their campaigns the next day, effectively locking out the entire position.
Article 1
Article 2
Article 3
As a deep red district, winning the Republican primary is an automatic win, and the Linthicums knew it. He is an illegitimately elected senator who has no business being anywhere near any form of government.

And to think he has the absolute BALLS to be running on a platform of “Vote Integrity” for Secretary of State, the one office in control of elections in the state of Oregon, sitting in a Senator’s seat he obtained through out-and-out textbook election manipulation/fraud, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME SUING THE STATE TO END VOTE BY MAIL BECAUSE THAT IS SUPPOSEDLY FRADULENT??? Mr. Linthicum is downright DANGEROUSLY INSANE and really should be barred from running for ANY office whatsoever.
The absolute insanity of these YallQeada nazis is mind-boggling. There is not a single neuron firing anywhere in those empty heads.

It fucking sucks I have to deal with my native shithole being represented by another 4 years of an utter embarassment being ignored by all of Salem though. I literally changed my affiliated party to R just to vote against both of these idiot lunatics. Mr. Henslee is an actual level-head who has done good as a county commissioner and would have been a great senator… but being reasonable isn’t allowed anymore.

gramie, in Transgender high school runner in Oregon booed after winning girls’ state title

Various anti-trans media outlets have also completely mischaracterized her very close 200-meter win as her “waltzing” to victory. This is completely false, as she won by 0.20 seconds.

0.2 seconds in a 200m race is a HUGE margin , and no one should pretend it’s not.
