Yes, loads of parents chase them out of the nest and feed them on the ground.

Some members of the crow family will take exception to you molesting the dabs and mob you. They are smart enough to know if you have a shotgun!

@raymccarthy I suspect that this was a juvenile Eurasian Oystercatcher, since a black-white bird was flying overhead and shouting all the time.

Based on the Wikipedia entry, the young do not stay within the nest for long anyway.
