BoobiesUnite, in Was anyone else kind of disappointed in the Pokemon presents?

Oh man i craving a new mystery dungeon! I was so happy when they remade rescue team and was so hopeful it meant more were coming. but its been like three years and weve got nothing 😭

I like watching cybertronvgc, he showcases a lot of different teams, gives breakdowns of the strategies in the beginning, then has easy to follow commentary of his thought process during several battles showcasing the team.

Vrases,

Cool I’ll look him up. Thanks

Even if it doesn't glow, it certainly gives me a good picture of what to expect from "The Teal Mask" and geometry dash world. Now I just need to weigh the pros and cons and decide whether I'm brave enough to face the potential technical hurdles…

Hello, welcome to pokemon@kbin.social (according to my Lemmy app at least lol)

Rpmkp, in Advice on EV spreads for Tera Raid pokemon

@pikasaurX4 pretty much all raids I do with belly drum azumarril or iron hands. In the few cases that doesn’t work I’ve used stored power slowbro, or the mew build for mewtwo.

pikasaurX4,

Thanks! Belly Drum Iron Hands is my newest raider and I agree it’s super powerful. I’ve been thinking about doing Azumarill as well

Rpmkp,

@pikasaurX4 do it, the type coverage between both raiders gives you stab electric fighting water fairy which is a huge chunk of available types. And stored power slowbro is a good backup

pikasaurX4, (edited ) in Advice on EV spreads for Tera Raid pokemon

Oh, I’d also be curious to hear which Pokémon people are using as well-rounded raiders. Like which mons do you use to cover certain Tera types or whatever. The ones I’m mainly using so far:

  • Metal Sound/Electro Drift Miraidon
  • Belly Drum/Drain Punch Iron Hands
  • Fake Tears/Hyper Beam Sylveon
  • Stored Power Slowbro
  • Swords Dance/Leech Life Mew
  • Torch Song Skeledirge
  • Teal Mask Ogerpon
  • Snarl/Light Screen/Helping Hand support Sableye
BoobiesUnite, in Shamelessly stealing this off Twitter.

All my favorite rock types are unviable and it hurts 😭

Seriously though, why they gotta make them so easy to kill??

SneakyWeasel,

You think you have it bad? My favorite type is ice.

BoobiesUnite,

Ooooo yeah that rough lol! I actually really like using the ice type but i feel like i never get a chance to because they always come so late in the game :/

pikasaurX4, in Was anyone else kind of disappointed in the Pokemon presents?

You’re not alone. I wasn’t expecting anything new, but I wasnt blown away by what I saw. I’m pretty excited for the SV DLC, but the way they are revealing info about it is killing my hype. I don’t know why, but the way they are dragging their feet has me caring less and less each trailer. Like there were some new forms or evos in this trailer, but I didn’t feel excited.

I can’t stress enough how little I care about Cafe Remix, but every Pokémon announcement has to spend 5 minutes telling me about the new visitors or outfits or whatever. I assume people must be playing this game or they wouldn’t be leaning so hard into it, but I really dont care at all.

I was into PoGo at launch but I’ve really grown to resent it and Niantic as a company so I don’t use any of their apps

I am a bit interested in Detective Pikachu because I loved the movie even though I never played the first one, but it’s not something I’m very hyped about. I may not even get it, but it does seem fun.

I would love to see another Legends game announced or something to actually get me excited. The same Treasure of Area Zero trailer 10 times with a couple new screenshots added each time is not doing it for me. I didn’t even share the video with my friends and talk about the announcements. I’m basically the only one still interested in giving Pokémon a shot and even I’m just so bummed with what they’re showing.

I will say that some of the anime stuff they showed looked kinda cool, but it’s probably not something I’ll actually watch at this point

Yeah it's like I'm getting jerked around by all my monster collector RPGs. Not a word on the new Digimon story game this year, Pokemons getting worse in every conceivable way except fan games.

At least I still have cassette beasts

pikasaurX4,

Yeah most people I talk to about Pokémon these days just dismiss the franchise as crap and bring up things like Cassette Beasts instead. I’ll always be a Pokémon lover but I am a little bummed out by the state of things sometimes.

Check out Monster Sanctuary if you need another fresh monster taming game. Probably my favorite non-Pokémon monster game of all time

LegendofDragoon,
LegendofDragoon avatar

I mean Pokemon fan games have been the absolute savior of the series for me recently. Uranium, Insurgence, XenoVerse, Infinite Fusion, and most recently Flux have all been amazing, and I cannot wait for swirling seasons!.

Monster Sanctuary was very apparently made with a lot of love and care, but I couldn't quite make it through the tutorial. I don't blame the game as I was in a funk at the time, I'll have to give it another go after baldurs gate is done devouring my soul.

pikasaurX4, (edited )

Haha, I totally get it. I had the same experience with Cassette Beasts. Like I love the mechanics and music and a lot of the monster designs I’ve seen, but after 5 hours I was done with it. Not sure why considering all my friends think it’s the best thing ever.

Infinite Fusion is another one they all love, but I couldn’t really get into. I liked Insurgence when I played it like 8 years ago. Radical Red was very enjoyable too but I did a lot of save scumming lol

LegendofDragoon,
LegendofDragoon avatar

Yeah I can see not liking them. Infinite Fusion is the Kanto story again for the umpteenth time, the fusions made it for me, and the built in challenges was cool, but I could absolutely see not being interested.

If you want that traditional Pokemon experience, Flux or XenoVerse might come the closest even with Flux not having the standard gym challenge.

Insurgence is the formula witha darker tone

… there’s no way that can be enforceable, right? Like, I get that nobody has the lawyers to go up against them if push came to shove, but if it DID go to court… That ain’t legal, right?

borzoiteeth,
borzoiteeth avatar

I haven't had the chance to talk to anyone who is an actual lawyer, but several people who are better at parsing legal stuff than I has said that (give or take your country) that it's null and void. However to do so requires money to challenge them in court. And TPC can out-money most people.

While not about fanart and was about emulation, it reminds me of the Bleem vs Sony trials. Bleem won every court case to sell their emulator but in the end the company died because they could not keep up with all of the court costs. Meanwhile, Sony could keep affording to lose and try again.

cujo,
@cujo@sh.itjust.works avatar

That’s a damned shame. I wonder if it wouldn’t be worth fighting just for the fact that the fanart is the artist’s own IP, even if it features TPC characters, and they could go after them for not just actual losses, but perceived/potential losses as well? TPC is a big company, and an exclusive license to use the fanart would cost them a pretty penny, and our artist could potentially be out of a lot of royalty money. I think it may be worth a consultation, at the very least.

Chances are nothing would come from it, or if they did it would be like that photographer who had to fight PETA. A guy was photographing primates in the Amazon (I think?) and one of the animals interacted with the camera and took a photo of itself. They guy sold that photo and make quite a name for himself on it, but PETA threw a shitload of money at taking him to court for stealing the monkey’s art and selling it as his own. The legal battles got drawn way out, his name got dragged, and now he hates photography.

borzoiteeth,
borzoiteeth avatar

The problem isn't just the TPC is a big company. They own the biggest franchise in the world and 2nd place isn't even close. Your normal people, even in a big group, can't fight it without someone else with big money decides to enter the ring. The only exception that comes to mind is if this fandom decides to take accountability and stop buying everything that comes out, but I think we all know the answer to this.

That said, I hope others keep passing along the facts as they come up. It's not right for a company to feel so powerful that it can feel free to bully their own fans so openly.

cujo,
@cujo@sh.itjust.works avatar

Very, very true. It’s so hard to get a significant amount of people to vote with their wallets the way they need to in order to enact change. They just… Won’t.

borzoiteeth,
borzoiteeth avatar

It doesn't help that most of our fandom are casuals who don't understand the frame of money involved. They have no concept that every other AAA company is working with less money than TPC.

Idreamofcheesy, in How Long has The Pokémon Company had this Stance about Fanart?

I don’t know if it’s new, but maybe Game Freak just realized they didn’t have enough pictures of gardevoir’s vagina.

borzoiteeth,
borzoiteeth avatar

I mean, logic applied if we all drew Pokémon with Disney stuff does that mean TPC states they own Disney IPs?

Stardust, in Finizen and Palafin for Obsidian Flames! Awesome alt-art, and I lot of damage for a stage 1 (210), but ONLY if you just moved Palafin from the bench!

Not bad, but the second one on the right is visually just a touuuuch too cluttered for my eyes/tastes. If the text had a slight transparent overlay/square background of white it'd probably work better, but would obscure more, idk.

Yes, I love the mystical look of these cards! I also love, unlike some of the EXes, this one has the same artist for the basic - it really makes the evolution lines feel like a story!

You're right because the art is consistent, there is a nonverbal story being communicated by these images...I wouldn't have considered that consciously without you calling attention to it!
