A question on Static vs Poison Point

What is the balance reason for some abilities to ignore type effectiveness while others don't.

It always puzzled me that static can paralyze ground (usually immune to electric moves) types while steel types retain immunity to poison point.

I'm not a competitive battler or anything but would appreciate more exposure to the subject. Might be good to get a competitive side thread or something for those interested? :D

Stardust,

I would assume it's because electric types and poisons tend to have different 'niches'; if a ground type breathes on an electric it tends to die as a frail speedster. On the other hand, steel and poison are both pretty bulky and being defensive is basically steel's niche.

A steel type can still be poisoned using Corrosion, however.
