mattburgess,

Perhaps the most dystopian story you will read this week. Cops used DNA to create a 3D model of a suspect's face... and then tried to run it through facial recognition software

WIRED story by Dhruv Mehrotra (not on Mastodon)

bontchev,

@mattburgess I'm pretty sure I've read about this in a dystopian SciFi novel in the '90s. "Drakon", by S.M. Stirling.

funes,

@mattburgess even the cops think they're in CSI. Did they enhance it a few times first too?

uastronomer,

@mattburgess Why do cops never want to arrest the snake-oil peddling con artists who sell made-up bullshit technology to them, though?
