JCreazy, in Google IS selling all my personal information in Google Domains to Squarespace?

Transferring data is not the same thing thing as selling data. Your data is being transferred, the money exchanged is for the servers, not for the data.

orbit,

While this is the technicality they'll die on, the value of the data in the transfer was 100% taken into account in this deal.

the money exchanged is for the servers, not for the data

That doesn't hold up.

That's like when you buy a sticker and the ounce of weed just "comes with it". The money is for the sticker, not the weed. If your concern is who has your data, whether it was sold alone or as part of some other purchase doesn't matter.

Google is lying? I'm shocked.

UrbenLegend, in We have nothing to hide, only everything to protect

People who say "I have nothing to hide" are just naive about what people can do with seemingly banal personal info.

Heck, it just takes one watch of any episode of Black Mirror to completely understand the consequences...

JurassicPork, in Privacy DNS resolver

I personally use unbound, so you are basically your own recursive DNS resolver..... First few days might be tad slower until you start caching results. But eliminates having to trust a third party, i instead of ISP & google/quad9/cloudflare etc. Its only your ISP your having to somewhat trust

  • Bicyclejohn,

The only good advertising is honest word of mouth from buyer to buyer. No marketing team involved

    Noodlez,

I disagree with this. If a new shop comes out, how are they supposed to get word-of-mouth over the bigger, more shopped at shop, even if it is better? People will stick with what they know, and the new shop will die. Maybe this is a naïve perspective, but that's how I am thinking here.

    Bicyclejohn,

Good point. Some degree of marketing should be allowed for small companies

Lengsel, in SimpleX Chat ! More privacy (I suppose)

I've been using SimpleX for at least 6 months as a full replacement for both Session and Briar and I have gotten a few people over SimpleX.

Now I only use Signal and SimpleX exclusively, nothing else to talk with people.

    Mikelius, in Privacy Search Engines

Man I loved duckduckgo until they stopped working with DarkReader about a month ago. So now every time I do a search, I'm blinded by a large white screen lol. Even setting their dark theme option doesn't persist between sessions (for me) so I had to move on... Brave was what I went to but I'm not enjoying it too much. Thanks for this list, it gives me some other options to look into if I end up not liking Leta 👀

    nof4n,

Maybe you should try to use https://midnight-lizard.org/ ? It is dark reader alternative.

nivenkos, in EU should ban targeted advertising

Why? It helps people see things that are relevant to them which helps them find things they want, helps small businesses find niche audiences, and keeps the economy moving.

This sort of anti-technology stuff is why the EU is becoming an economic backwater vs. the USA.

Bicyclejohn, in EU should ban targeted advertising

Eu should stop the chat control

kugel7c, in EU should ban targeted advertising

Honestly let's just ban all advertising, except for maybe small signs.

    Equinox, in Privacy DNS resolver

I'm a happy user of Control D. They have a free dns resolver on their page, you can choose which filters to apply. If you want more control you can get a paid subscription.

I thought Facebook would know me better but their list is very generic. They think I like Hollywood. I doubt those other companies are any better but I won't give them my real name

    Clocker108, in Privacy DNS resolver

On android, I use rethinkDNS. Its pretty configurable and open-source. On windows or linux, I use mullvad dns. They have 2 free DNS resolvers(unfiltered, adblock)

Mullvad DNS works without using the VPN?

    Clocker108,

There is free DNS resolvers on mullvad. Check it out here.

You have to be careful since these DNS resolvers are different to DNS resolver which mullvad VPN uses. If you are not using mullvad VPN, those would be fine. But if you are using mullvad VPN, consider other.

    Mailbox or Migadu

    stonesimulator,

Comments on Migadu? I'm looking to migrate from Mailbox after they announced their new price schemes.
