Something's in the water in Australia that makes great rock and roll. PLEASANTS is the new solo effort of Al Uminium (Dennis Cometti, Aborted Tortoises, Ghoulies) and it's catchy, rough, raw, fun, and synthy.
If you're into catchy garage synth punk-ish stuff, you're gonna dig. Even has some kinda 60s garage feel or 70s punk feel to it sometimes.
Recommended, and might be a contender for my favorite albums of 2024.
@wendigo heck yeah! Yeah, I liked a single or two when they put em out a couple weeks ago. The last song is a bit weird but if that's my only issue.. I gotta give it another listen, too.
@Kitty nah. Hot Garbage, I've listened to that one several times.. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be on my top 20. This one.. I'm not sure yet. Possibly. We'll see how the rest of the year goes, if it gets bumped. And once I do some more listens of it haha
They're different too, HG is more post-punk, this one is straight up like, 77 style punk. But goofy. And still catchy. That synthy eggy stuff like Gee Tee. I first got hooked on this guy's stuff with his other project Dennis Cometti hahaha
@Kitty absolutely - that one is so solid. I'm always shocked when I come across a whole album that I like of ANY genre 🤣 yeah, Pleasants was a nice surprise today. When I don't want to turn it off, I know I have a winner 🤣🤣
@Kitty also, I'm not sure I'm great with ANY genres, they cross so much, especially lately. And I'm super picky with punk, more than other genres, I think. Like the new Hot Water Music one coming soon. Never really got into them but gonna give it a try. Might be too poppy or emo kinda for me.
@Kitty ha! Oh, if I don't like the singer, that's an automatic no. That eliminates a lot. And the songs have to be catchy somehow, interesting, not just fast, and preferably unique to each other, I don't want every song sounding EXACTLY the same, yknow? Unless it's like, AC/DC. hahaha
