The Information. such a cool album. has an inward-looking anti-technology edge contradicted by its own use of techy/electronic instrumentation.
one of the CD versions came with a DVD with music videos for every song. mostly Beck and his friends f*%king around (attached)
favorites changed changed a lot; "Elevator Music" and, of course, "Think I'm in Love" but after years, i always go back to "Cellphone's Dead" and "Dark Star"
@buru5 haha YES. I still have that with the DVD, it's amaazing. I'm such a huge Beck fan haha. Not EVERYTHING he does, but yeah this one is a masterpiece. Cellphone's is my fave on it too. But have you HEARD this Nausea remix? Album version is just okay, but this takes it to the NEXT LEVEL I mean 🤯 I'm obsessed with it haha
@jake4480 no i haven't. this version is better, for sure. Nausea is one of the weaker tracks on the album, but it does hearken back to his earlier junk-folk days (i think); singing cadence and lyricism feel like Mellow Gold.
i've liked most all of his stuff on some level. Sea Change is one of my favorite albums of all time, for example. i liked Morning Phase, too. Colors was ok (the poppy singles were great rest was meh). Weakest (imo) was Hyperspace, i think.
@buru5 ha! Sea Change and Morning Phase are my two least favorites 😂 The only ones on Sea Change I like are Lost Cause, Sunday Sun, and Little One. The rest are no-gos for me haha. Morning Phase I think maybe I liked Heart is a Drum - REALLY didn't feel that one. Liked Guero a lot and Dreams and Wow on Colors I love. I obviously love Mellow Gold, Odelay and Midnite Vultures. My favorite of his might be Mutations. That album. Whew
@jake4480 Lazy Flies, We Live Again, Cold Brains; great Mutations tracks. what do you think about Midnite Vultures, years ago i didn't understand that alubm but now it has some of my favorite Beck songs; "Get Real Paid," "Sex Laws," and the janky guitar melody in "Mixed Bizness" is so cooool. apparently this was his "Prince" album.
@buru5 absolutely. Midnite is another masterpiece in my opinion. I was 19 when it came out and it was huge for me. I've played it just COUNTLESS times. I like it MORE than Prince 🤣 an added advantage to it, as far as we know, Beck isn't an abusive asshole like Prince was. Peaches and Cream, Pressure Zone - wow. Debra! Make a garbage man scream indeed
