Man Sinéad O’Connor really nailed it on the Catholic Church huh? Two decades ahead of her time.

@Chanders People keep saying that. O'Connor tore up her picture of the pope two years after the Boston Phoenix and the Boston Globe began publishing their landmark reporting. And the Globe had some major stories on pedophile priests a good 10 years before that. Hard to know why everyone didn't stand up in their living rooms and applaud O'Connor.

@dankennedy_nu good point and fair enough. Tbh I remember a lot from those days as a (non-Catholic kid in S Jersey) and the discourse was just really bizarre. Teenagers made “jokes” if you can call it that about the church - or at the very least it was well known. And somehow never really talked about. Hard to explain.

@Chanders At the same time, O'Connor was blaming the pope back when everyone was treating him like a victim. And she was right. I don't have a thimble full of sympathy for Bernard Law, who was evil. But I wouldn't have guessed at the time that he was no worse than JP2.

@Chanders Good grief. At my age, everything starts to blend together. The Phoenix and the Globe began their reporting in 2001-02, not 1991-92. So yes, Sinéad O’Connor was definitely ahead of her time.
