it's interesting that gunpowder was invented around the 10th century but it took until 1847 with the invention of nitroglycerin for a stronger explosive to be found
@aetios and also just, actual chemical investigation wasn't really a thing before the 18th to 19th century (mostly because people had basically no idea what a chemical was before that)
