I keep trying to change my map usage over to and there seems to be a new app (@organicmaps) getting traction. I like the app itself so far, but I am still 0/2 with using OSM successfully. 🙁

There is literally a car tunnel 200ft below my building with entrances half a mile north and south, but it consistently wants me to take it. Is there an option to turn off digging? 😂

For bike routing, it wants me to take a dangerous road when there is a parallel road a block away with a protected bike line. Even Apple Maps gets that one right. I know you can edit places, but not sure how to contribute to navigation. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@patbak can you please also send us a wrong bike route? Is it properly mapped on OpenStreetMap.org ?

@patbak can you please send us your coordinates by email so we can debug and fix it?

@patbak It's possible that the data is incomplete, and the router can only propose a route based on what it knows.

Can you tweak/"force" the app to take a preferred route by adding stops along those streets?

In my experience, I get more bike-friendly routes from OsmAnd by default , but OM's interface is definitely more user friendly.

@gowin For the tunnel (car) issue, I can turn off tolls (its a tolled tunnel). For the bike routing issue I can add stops along the way to force the roads I want to take. The only problem so far with that and @organicmaps is that it would be nice to be able to save those routes since they are more time consuming to create than just point to point. I imaging biking routing is hard because the most direct route road-wise isn't necessary the one that you want to use a bike for.

@gowin In this case there are two parallel roads. Once is a very busy two lane, two way, uneven road with a sidewalk that will either be non-existent or too crowded with pedestrians for the 8 blocks I have to bike. While the other road has a two-way completely protected bike like (that does show up on the map). Its one extra block over distance wise, but it is certainly the best route to take on a bike.

@gowin Maybe there needs to be a weighting of bike lanes from least (non-existent) to most safe (fully protected) and the user can choose how risk adverse they want to be.

@patbak Yeah, that kinda reminds me of , which always offer users at least 3 routes to choose from.

With OsmAnd, you can create different profiles to match specific requirements, and each will then generate routes based on those preferences.

@gowin Interesting. I installed OsmAnd. It’s a little laggy and it also has the same issue with the car/tunnel navigation, but the bike route was exactly what I would have expected.

@patbak
Cool! Most everyone will admit it's not the best looking app out there. 😅

I usually have biking profiles for fastest/shortest routes, and another for by-ways, for leisurely rides.
