What's the farthest away from home you've been to a gig? Mine is Basia in San Francisco (@don was also there, but I can't vouch if that was his furthest away gig).
I also saw Bat for Lashes in San Francisco, but at a venue to the east in the city, so closer to Belfast!
@ianRobinson Yep, SF with Basia is probably the furthest but as you say coincidental.
I very nearly travelled to LA to go to the Keith Emerson tribute concert not long after he died. Wished I had now.
On a separate note, the furthest I’ve travelled to see a movie was Catalina Island, just off California. I got invited (along with @podfeet & @spsheridan ) to attend a premiere of the 2009 Star Trek movie reboot. Too good an opportunity to miss.
@don@podfeet@spsheridan Nice. I'm off to Toronto in November to see The Beaches. I’ll do other stuff while I'm there, but if The Beaches weren't playing two nights in a big hall in their hometown, I wouldn't be going. Can't wait ☺️
@ianRobinson London to see Midnight Oil. Three times. The only played the second and third times. They broke up for 15 years just before the first gig I was going to see.
I know London is not as far as San Francisco, but I went for a gig and waited 15 years for the band to play?
@mo Nice. It’s not a competition. London is the furthest I’ve gone specifically for gigs (Queen, Marina, Kate Bush). The San Francisco ones just happened to be on when I was there for WWDC.
Toronto will take the crown from London for me in November. The Beaches playing two nights in a big venue in their hometown. I haven’t been away for a decade, and only go places for specific events. So I’m going to Toronto 😊
@ianRobinson Specifically for a concert, the furthest has been London (Jesse Malin). Happy accidental coincidence was Amsterdam (Ryan Adams, back when I still listened to him).
@ianRobinson Jealous of your Toronto trip, I’m something of a Canadophile. So apart from a bar band in Vancouver, furthest-away official gig would have been Supergrass in Montreal when they were just breaking through here, but completely unknown there. Excellent power trio live
