It's a bit of a problem for 2024 that most of the Dem leadership—but not majority of the Dem base, nor a majority of independents—believes that the highest priority at the end of 2023 is providing political cover to Netanyahu's campaign to raze Gaza.

It's a bit of a problem that so many people are willing to give Republicans so much power.

Id argue its status quo (which is a ton of increasingly impotent violence).

The real gordian knot cut is how the far-Xs are trying to proxify this war.

Outpatientzero,

@maxkennerly I'm not an American, so have no vote, but I simply don't vote for leaders who are complicit in the commission of genocide and many of my American friends are the same I suspect. would have lost my vote by now if it were possible for me to vote for him.

Israel remains the third-rail in American politics - grabbing it is often political suicide - so successful has been its lobbying argument that there is no distinction between criticizing a govt, its state, its people, or their dominant religion. That doesn't really help Israel, or the rest of the world, resolve its conflicts. It exacerbates them, while the innocent on both sides die.

@maxkennerly It's incredibly strange that so many leaders of the Democratic Party believe that being pro-Israel is a winning position for getting independent votes.
