Marco Rubio is, of course, a spineless toady and an AIPAC favorite. The only reason Netanyahu would prevent him from meeting the directors of Mossad & Shin Bet is if he felt what they had to say would compel even a spineless toady to action. https://www.axios.com/newsletters/axios-am-2cf638e6-57b9-4c86-8655-6123ca00ba58.html?chunk=1&utm_term=emshare#story1

I'm sorry, but if you call yourself a "moderate" or "conservative" while also advocating for "major changes" or to "tear down the system," then you're not any of those things, you're just an angry reactionary dimwit who doesn't even know what words mean.

Here's all you need to know about Mark Penn's column: it does not use the word "abortion."

There's no point listening to any electoral advice that doesn't suggest Dems lean into their best issue in 50 years, one proven in 2022 & 2023 to work nationwide.

So much of Musk's "visionary leadership" is classic mismanagement. He's not just nuking the one area in which he Tesla can lock-in market dominance (the EV chargers), he's doing it in the most chaotic manner possible, without any plan for going forward. https://electrek.co/2024/05/03/read-the-wild-email-tesla-is-sending-to-suppliers-amid-supercharger-chaos/

In the House passage of the "Antisemitism Awareness Act," which adopts the IHRH definition of antisemitism,

5.9% of Representatives who voted Yea are Jewish.

6.6% of Representatives who voted Nay are Jewish.

If the goal is to protect Jewish students, perhaps we should listen to the Jewish voices telling us this is not the right path.

Anyone who draws a comparison between Jan 6 and Columbia Univ reveals that they don't understand or don't care about the significance of Jan 6: Trump's mob stormed Congress to thwart the people's vote in the 2020 election. That's not a protest, it's a threat to democracy itself.

The legal definition of "genocide" is quite strict, but describing the "annihilation" of a place to "blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven" would sure seem to meet "dolus specialis," the specific intent to destroy a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group.

The Harvey Weinstein reversal isn't some regrettable technicality or scrupulous adherence to defendants' rights, it's just bullshit. Weinstein claimed consent, the prosecutors introduced evidence of him victimizing others the exact same way, thereby showing intent. Appalling. See Singas & Cannataro's dissents.

Thankfully, Weinstein also has a 16-year sentence in California, so hopefully he dies in prison anyway. 🙏

It seems this deputy assistant administrator at the DEA believes that Adderall is basically street meth and, well, someone with that level of ignorance about pharmacology should simply not be employed by the DEA or any other drug-regulating agency.

These similarities apply just as much to GLP-1s. There's certainly more aggressive competition among drugmakers to produce and market GLP-1s, whereas the bulk of ADHD drugs are low-profit generics.

So are we going to arbitrarily limit them too, or just ADHD drugs?

The Netanyahu government—filled with grifters, fanatics, and anyone who will help Bibi stay in power and out of jail—simply isn't competent to handle the situation they're in. The U.S. has no choice but to impose strict limitations on any assistance provided to them.

One neat trick to fight inflation is to stop having such car-centric policies.

Feb-Mar inflation / year-over-year inflation
Motor vehicle repair 3.1% / 11.6%
Motor vehicle insurance 2.6% / 22.2%
Intracity mass transit 0.0% / 2.0%

Hardly surprising. It has long been the goal of Israel's right-wing, including Netanyahu, to entrench Hamas and ensure a permanent state of terrorism and war. The worst-case scenario for them is a stable civil government in Gaza.

One telling aspect of the targeted drone strike on World Central Kitchen is how, as Israel approaches its 200th kill of a humanitarian worker, neither Netanyahu nor the IDF even pretends there will be consequences for the soldiers or changes in policy.

Because it is the policy.

So the way the IDF chose targets was (1) an AI spat out tens of thousands of names of potential Hamas members; (2) those people's homes were made bombing targets; (3) no one bothered to review any of it or even see if the person was home; (4) the potential for civilian casualties didn't matter.

Like the three unarmed hostages waving a white flag and countless other incidents, it's impossible to reconcile this with any reasonable rules of engagement. These were branded vehicles traveling in a deconflicted zone and they had coordinated their movements with the IDF.

He's right. "Originalism" is about stringing together a collection of words to support a predetermined outcome. There's no need for fidelity to facts, reliable description of source material, nor even logical consistency. It's one of the few tasks large language models could do.
