Amirography,

The problem with file-based approaches to note-taking is that it requires you to synchronize them. The difficulty with synchronizing them is that I cannot find a platform that I can use in Iran without a significant hassle (think hours) every time I'm trying to synchronize them.

derwaro,

@Amirography is github accessible in Iran?

Amirography,

@derwaro yes. But the problem is that i have many projects that are in git. I have to use git submodule for them. In android there is not a way to fit that in a reasonable workflow (takes more than 50 steps to start taking a note).

Amirography,

@derwaro i have found only one decent workflow which is through gitjournsl. But there, i either have to make a new repo and detach my codes from my para there. Or I have to use many-git approach which is do able in normal senarios, but require the one time purchase of the app which again is not possible in Iran (or at least, not practically possible).

Amirography,

@derwaro i any other ways, git is actually pretty awesome. Git is decentralized so if github bans iranians again or iran filters github or government cut access to internet again, the files are there.

derwaro,

@Amirography This seriously sounds more complicated than I imagined! But at least github is accessible (for the moment if I got you right) in Iran, i feared that it would be blocked or subject to export bans right away. What do you use now for note taking? Is a nextcloud instance a possible solution? I run one back home in Austria for the sole purpose of note and image backup from my phone/laptop. It even seems to be able to keep up with frequent saves from obsidian (also every second...)

Amirography,

@derwaro there are 3 problems there.
Most importantly, the vps in iran are being used constantly for creating VPNs. Most ips are getting banned because of censorship. Very volatile situation.
Added to that privacy of these vps are almost guaranteed to be a joke.
Last point is that for nextcloud to work decently, I need a domain with https. A dedicated domain currently costs more than 5% of my salary which is not worth it considering the marginal benefits.

Amirography,

@derwaro What I'm currenly doing is that I made a central "notes" repo with a "projects" folder. For each project that has a repo, I make a project folder for it in my notes.
It is not sustainable in longer term than 1 year in my experience, but It is the best I got.
