0xabad1dea,

you can use computers every day for thirty years and still be utterly blown away by new error messages you cannot even begin to comprehend

Muddobbers,

@0xabad1dea

It's like the last 6 years of tech development in IT and things, I feel like I missed a boat somewhere and now the tech world is using software and lingo that my brain has no knowledge of. Whatever happened to the good old ways!?

pdw57,

@0xabad1dea Sounds like a you problem :) Just get windows. Duh.

0xabad1dea,

@pdw57 okay it seems you are half my age so I am going to tell you clearly instead of just blocking you: this is a very annoying kind of reply to receive from a stranger, especially in light of the fact that every single time for 15 years that I have mentioned on social media that I am using Windows, Linux or OSX, a total stranger tells me that clearly the problem is I should be using Windows, Linux or OSX instead

@0xabad1dea I dunno ...i still prefer that over the new chic of "whoopsy floops, something bad happened. We won't tell you what or why, because you're a dumb user who wouldn't understand anyway, and we also don't want our customer support reps to have a clue. Teehee! 😃😃😃" :P

@0xabad1dea I had to take a second look to convince myself that the icon doesn't include a christmas tree ornament.

0xabad1dea,

@DocBohn it's the branding icon for an OSX major update, being treated here as the application originating the error

@0xabad1dea @thomasfuchs

Two of my favorite exchanges in the first year or so of working at my current employer:

“It’s telling me that it’s an illegal operation to instantiate an abstract bean.”

“I need to get the beanstalk key.”

Even better: these conversations were months apart and neither of them had anything to do with each other. One involved Java, the other involved Amazon Web Services configuration.

0xabad1dea,

@dpnash @thomasfuchs fee fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Azure customer

0xabad1dea,

for the record, I think this is what happened:

— “I am going to sell this macbook, I should do that major OS update I’d been dodging”
— laptop begins 14GB download
— I close the lid, forgetting to actually apply the update
— one month later I open the lid after finding a buyer. it is extremely not amused
