@regis for storing the actual files, I like keeping things tidy with beets. It helps me match a folder full of music to the exact release. all data stored in id3 https://beets.io - I store flacs but can’t always claim I can hear the difference :D
@eljojo honestly when I see on Reddit people comparing Spotify and Apple Music sound quality, I think I don’t have the same body as the others since I can’t hear a difference even with very expensive headphones and DAC and pre amp etc….
I’ll definitely need to use beets. I do remember using it in 2007. Time flies. Boring tech remains.
@regis nowadays, with moderate to low prices for mass storage devices, I would go with a lossless format. as the name suggests, it is a 1:1 copy of the original medium, but compressed - you may think of it as zip for music.
I personally ripped all my cds to flac. take care about the ripping software, cdparanoia is pretty well. freac as a all-in-one solution provided a satisfying experience for me.
