@evan
Exactly. That's what I am irritated about.
It's like saying: is colonisation of other countries good or not for people living in the first world.
@evan
Strongly disagree here. Can't look at the silo user's situation only, and completely ignore the implications for all the fediverse users. I'd say, you will have to choose: want a siloed experience, go ahead. Want (still relative) freedom, change your situation and join the fediverse. Bit like stopping to smoke, imho.
@Heliograph I perfectly understand that some minds can't do this kind of integration easily, or feel honest about it. Feel free to spend your time on something else.
@evan Did Internet users benefit from AOL providing access to the Internet? There were pluses and minuses; it was good overall, I'd say. Did AOL users benefit from access to the Internet? Unquestionably.
@evan Strongly agree. "Better" in the sense that the users receive more convenience (via more connections) without having to reexamine their previous choices.
A potential negative is ban evasion, where an attacker can create many accounts on different servers and the silo has less ability to detect related accounts.
@evan Better for user interests in the long term, vs better for usability in the short term, is a critical fork that makes this a difficult (if not misleading) survey question, imho.
