Idea:

Bookstores should group fantasy with horror instead of scifi. Both fantasy and horror are purely creations of the author's mind; scifi is tethered to factual information.

If you need to group scifi, I'd put it with mysteries and thrillers.

"authors who stick close to currently understood science" isn't the definition of Science Fiction in anything I've ever run across.
The difference AFAIK as I know is whether the science is understood by the characters in the book. If it's woo-woo even to them, then it's fantasy.

Watching the bear vs man in forest stories & I remember when our 9-year-old son said some boys at recess offered to play with him if 'he hugged & kissed a girl.'

He replied, "No, that's inappropriate," & told us he didn't mind not being able to play with those boys after all. Later his teacher shared she was happy he stood up to peer pressure.

Y'all—it's never too early to teach boys about consent & boundaries. Have the convo. Then again. And again. Boys will be the boys we teach them to be.

When we bought our house all the appliances were new and had "smart" capabilities, but other than the ones I want to be able to control from a distance (Eg. garage door) I'm just refusing. I can see how things like being able to program the oven to delay its start or change temps after X time would be useful - but I've cooked without that up to now and I don't think it's worth the security of my data...yet.

Why do you think that? My Keurig makes great coffee. It's just a modern percolator.

It looks like a pond filled with the pink leaves of water lilies. Most pictures focus on the flowers, but this one is of just the stems and leaves of the plant. It's an absolutely gorgeous photo!

Here's a similar image but of a single leaf.

Went to pick up something from a farmer in my state. I got there and there was a big German Shepherd, who was an absolute doll, and a herd of cats and chickens that the shepherd would not approach. It was adorable. Many scruffs were given :-)

A wide angled shot of a dirt road and part of a white barn, and half a dozen cats and chickens walk hanging out together. Most of the chickens are black, but a few are black and white or redheads. The cats are pretty evenly split between redheads and mottled greys.

I'm wondering what online socializing maps onto what in-person socializing.

Like if I drop in on your timeline and start liking everything, is that “in the neighbourhood, just wanted to say hi”?

A thread of more than three back-and-forth posts feels equivalent to an intense phone call.

    Maybe.

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 128 , Monday 04/03/2024

TL:DR House elf, but not house elf enuf it seems.

Up around 6, made breakfast, emptied the dishwasher , hung the laundry out & then managed to get out for a walk.

Got home to find that herself had been down while I was out & made her mid-morning snack , leaving me the cleaning up to do. I really don’t mind housework, but I object to being taken for granted & treated like staff!

Really struggled to find the motivation to do anything for most of the rest of the day.
Managed to get into ESO a little bit late this afternoon.

Reading Masto this evening while watching the TV & a person I thought of as a friend essentially accused me of being lazy today, which kinda hurt.
I know that I have motivational problems & that for various reasons I have not been super active over the last 6 months or so , but I do try to at least do the minimum to keep house n home together. I have yet to have a full week where I can completely turn off - even when I have been quite seriously ill !
I know there is so much more that I have to do, but I am trying !
Sufficed to say that our relationship is changed as of now. 😔
Reading this has really brought my mood down.

I also caved to another pizza - which I didn’t really enjoy , so major failure!

    Final Thoughts.

I generally have a very low self image , today a ‘friend’ successfully dropped it several pegs lower.

Thank you to all those who are helping me on this journey, in a myriad different ways. I am thankful to each & every one of you! 🫂 🫶🐿️🖖

Either your friend thinks that saying that is motivational, in which case you should tell them to fuck off.

Chances are that you have seen this meme floating around, especially around elections. It isn't what you think it is. It is not a friendly digital handshake. It isn't meant to help neighbors mend fences. It is a deliberate instrument of psychological manipulation.

When I was a teen, I was aggressively anti-theist, imagining myself quite clever for demonstrating how silly religious beliefs are.

But life is fucking hard and I learned not to begrudge anyone any solution they’ve come up with to make life a little more comprehensible to them.

I don’t share anyone’s religious beliefs, but it’s not as if I’ve figured out how to run my own life successfully. I shouldn’t be in the business of telling other people how or how not to handle the world.

You have faith that a secular alternative to religion would be better, and one cannot argue with faith.
They have faith that a religious system is inherently a positive force, and one cannot argue with faith.

The problem with the former is that it's been tried, and humanity so far has 100% track record for making things horrible.
