@daringfireball “In most countries, people can just buy corrective glasses and contacts lenses without a prescription, but the U.S. — ostensibly the land of freedom — requires a doctor’s prescription.” Not saying it’s wrong, but in Canada (and, it seems, Australia and New Zealand) one gets a prescription from an optometrist (not an ophthalmologist) for corrective lenses, and the eye exam is, or was for me, about $100 Canadian. Is an ophthalmologist’s prescription what’s necessary in the U.S.?
