@Zennblack@CSB eriner does a regular (at least yearly I think) purge of inactives. Then those slots are filled back up to the 10k limit. So I'd guess active accounts is probably near 90%. However, I'd guess that 90% of those are "actively lurking" as opposed to "actively posting", so it feels like a smaller community than it actually is because a good percent are just observing without interacting
@mh@Zennblack@CSB first I used it mainly for the notes-bot. Nice and well done collection. Every ither day the sources. Very nice. Some went out to other channels.
Maybe a lot of new arrivals do the same. BUT if I look at the main server public timeline, I begin to think some use it purely as a activitypub-endpoint ans never listen to the show.
@CapitalB@mh@CSB
It is an interesting group here. The show is good but this instance enhances it for sure. I do not agree with many but the opportunity to explore different opinions is great. Debate is how we learn and sometimes change our views.
@Zennblack my infotainment tactic is time over signal ratio. Back in 2010 e.g. there were a lot of tiny low traffic foreign language imageboards. You checked them in a short time and every evening I found something interesting or surprising. NAS still fullfills this requirement. 15mins at most and I find something. If I blocked the image dumpers it would probably take only slightly less time.
That is also why I began to build up an RSS reader again. Serendipity is almost gone from the net.
@PNS@CSB what I don’t understand is why they think shaming people for not giving as much as Adam/John thinks everyone should will ever be effective. 🤷🏻♀️
The NoAgenda pod is no longer even my go-to fall asleep pod... Tho I'm sure it still works great for that.
IMO, they jumped the shark during COVID (couldn't deal with the contradictions, bc they don't want to offend their audience), fell back into strict "MSM deconstructions", started using that as an excuse to do 0 critical analysis that might be offensive.
The MSM has become such a narrow slice of reality, that its boring.
@Nazareno@jazzilla@PNS@CSB@ClassicalRae Not sure I understand. NAS - yeah he may find some of our $hitposting distasteful if not outright sacreligious or blasphemous on occasion. But NA in general? Can you explain a little more? thanks-
@Nazareno@ScoWer22@jazzilla@PNS@CSB it’s possible that it’s unintentional…and that he’s just trying to “be a good Christian” according to his understanding of things so far.
You know I never begrudged him his conversion. I just hoped it would produce tangible results.
I'm squinting and I still can't see any sincerity.
I have a theory that Curry coopts and diverts unique demos. Rogan's audience. Beck's, etc.
I'm not a religious person, but of all the religions, Christianity is the reason the world is flocking here. Christians made decent workable, livable societies.
@Nazareno@PNS@jazzilla@CSB@ClassicalRae Now THAT would explain the level of animosity some have posited here that he may feel for NAS. We have widely divergent views on those matters. Thanks for the food for thought. As Artie Johnson from Laugh-In used to say, "Veeeeery interesting."
@Nazareno@jazzilla@ScoWer22@PNS@CSB@ClassicalRae I would be interested into which brand/denomination of Christianity AC is attending and/or influenced by. I don't see anything in NA or NAS that excludes Christians from participating (within some self-imposed parameters).
Holiness movement was very legalistic and lacks proper understanding of Law vs Gospel distinction or Old vs New Covenant....that's why they end up being fanatical legalists that vacillate between guilt/shame and pride.
@PNS@Nazareno@jazzilla@ScoWer22@CSB@ClassicalRae Yeah, seems like one of those newer "hip" churches where "worship music" is really important. Tends to cater to a younger or "cooler" demographic.
Songs and choruses generally have lyrics along the lines of "god is my girlfriend" type of songs.
Here is a spoof that kind of captures what I am alluding to:
@Nazareno@elston@PNS@jazzilla@CSB@ClassicalRae No- no. I didn't take it that way either. My oldest brother is a very conservative evangelical, and this definitely controls what he thinks of Jews and Israel. Absolutely critical puzzle piece to HIS Bible or at least his understanding of his Bible.
Pander to specific demographic (age, race, income level). Attendance dominated by this group to diminishing of others (often due to music style). May result in young dominant demographic. Not having the full gamut of ages, incomes, or social class is a tell that the church is out of balance and not the best reflection of the "body of Christ" that it ought to be IMHO.
@PNS@CSB I know which remarks you're probably referring to, but Adam also invariably promotes NAS and welcomes new listeners to try it out (as he does the troll room). So i want to assume that he wants a name change for positive reasons, not distancing or dissociating himself from it. No?
@PNS@CSB With all due respect, he's a helluva lot more sunshine and roses than sourpuss John ever is. And it can't be easy for him to have to listen to John trashing us all again, while still remaining as upbeat as he can to even out the overall tone of the broadcast (which i think he's VERY good at; being the yin to John's yang). They're a good duo. Very different, like us all, in so many ways, but Martin & Lewis needed a breakup. These two work best together in my inexpert opinion.
@PNS@CSB Agree. Adam's virtues (among many) are continuation, polish, cheery positive tone (despite the dark, creepy $hit they have to cover). I remember Adam from back in the day watching MTV. He's a pro. But on that platform, despite the in-depth music reviews and interviews he assembled, I still had no idea the depth of his intelligence, curiosity, kindness, integrity. I like our boys and hope they don't find an exit strategy. I hope Adam's earnest when he SAYS this is his ideal gig.
