Okay... random thought processes once again but -

TIL many things about language

  1. colère means 'anger' in French
  2. sortie means 'exit' in French
  3. I have no idea what a 'reseignement' is even after google-translating it
  4. 'todo' means 'to the max' in Tagalog, but seems to be used as 'all' in Spanish 'todos', much like French 'tout/tous'
  5. Despite my French lessons and Tagalog knowledge of certain Spanish words, I cannot understand Spanish at all

Bonus: Tagalog is based off Malay, but a lot of the vocabulary is Spanish spelt in an American-ish way, and many speakers use Taglish because straight Tagalog leads to very deep Shakespeare-like words.

Tagalog is one hell of a language. I'm guessing the structure is similar to Malay, but I can't understand Malay at all. Spanish makes 0 sense to me but I can tell you pick out random words with 0 context nor sense.

I always like to compare it to English. Did you know English is a Germanic language? The most common English words are Germanic, but we probably can't understand Germanic because only the structure is Germanic - other words might come from Greek, Old French or Latin. Ig it helps us pick out random words from a romance language like French but not understand the structure.

Oh and yes I just swallowed this from some Insta account but I love this fun fact.

IIRC, Germanic is like languages like Swedish and the like. Google it. Not bothered rn.

I don't think it is correct to say that Tagalog is based off Malay. This implies that without Malay, Tagalog would not exist. It is more correct to say Malay and Tagalog are related languages, and are probably based off a common language.

@jikodesu okay, maybe a waaay older language before Spanish colonialisation? From which both languages stemmed from?
