@Catweazle My home phone number, growing up, consisted of only 6,7,8,9,0 - it took so long for that rotary dial to come back around. I always envied people who had nothing but 1-5 in their phone numbers.
I did enjoy dialing with the eraser end of a pencil instead of my finger, though! ✏️
@NeadReport, I remember a small lock that could be placed on the dial, preferably on 3, which prevented calls, except for emergency calls (112).
In any case, I think that when the phones were tied up, people were freer.
