So I’m curious. When people write up a profile for the fediverse, & don’t include the country where they live, what is their reason? Is it because they don’t think it matters or is of interest to others? Is it because they assume that everyone lives in the same country as them or shares their geopolitical viewpoint?

@Susan60 I'd assume the former. I never hid mine, but don't have it in my Discord profile, for example. It gets mentioned if it comes up.

@Triffen

I’m often curious. And when I refer to something happening locally, will often state where that is to put it into context for others.

@Susan60 Yeah, I routinely just scroll posts about some obviously local not-to-me events. I often can't tell if that's about baseball or politics 🤦
It's a growing problem for me with any news. I often read local posts on Facebook and can't tell which 'side' the poster is on. They just tell and assume and hint, and I leave the text totally baffled.

@Susan60

I don't see the country I live in as relevant to conversation on here. I will see if I have shared my country in my profile later.

The only time location is important is if for example there is a team meeting and this spans time zones, and then the time zone is more useful than the actual country as a time zone spans many countries.
