If you're really desperate for full-text #search on Mastodon, there is a workaround. You can put something like this into your favorite search engine:

site:mastodon.social grapefruit
(or whatever you're searching for)

and it will find posts from people who have not selected “opt out of search engine indexing" in their preferences.

It's not user-friendly, and it only works on one server at a time, but it works.
