@jdmccafferty Great finds, these paintings. May I ask what are generally your sources? I find many portraits which ought to be in the public domain are (effectively, wholly immorally) locked up under a copyright of a museum. I don’t make commerical re-use but like to keep to collections offered as PD, not as eternal revenue stream for board of dying museum.

@pteranodo Well the Rijksmuseum, Met, Louvre, V&A and many other have good search engines and 'fair use' provisions. NGA Washington, too. Staedel, Albertina and quite a no of US sites such as Art Institute Chicago. Museums with generous policies such as the Rijksmuseum or the exquisite Mauritshuis and Kunsthistorches Wien (Vienna) have found these have increased their actual footfall. So in many ways a virtuous circle. Getty.edu are another who (who would have guessed?) do it too.
