Me dutifully calculating home office expenses…

Calculator: you get $38

How much do you think the cost of maintaining a cubicle in downtown Ottawa costs? I bet it’s more than $38 a year

Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😵‍💫

@lanastewart That seems low. Mine worked out to like $57 and Jeff's $63. When calculating your percentage of home, don't include your basement, for one thing; if it's not finished, it's not living space. Also, did you make improvements to your workspace?

@casseagull @lanastewart my problem is that my desk is compact and doesn’t take up much space

I dunno. But I’m not going to go back for $15 dollars

I didn’t add other expenses because I’d have to go track down receipts for checks notes light bulbs. 🙄🙄🙄

@lanastewart I included the rooms for our working space, not just our desks - that the room is also for something else is why it calculates how much time you are working because it also assumes that you need space isolated from the other activity in your home. Your space is your living room's area, and not your desk's.

@casseagull @lanastewart aaaah - I followed the example of an open concept space. Ah well.

@lanastewart @casseagull you also don't include bathrooms, since presumably you need to pee while working

@chrisbegley @lanastewart The other ridiculous thing is that you only get a percentage of your heating costs, based on the size of your workspace, as if you can only heat that small portion of your house. It's pretty ridiculous.

@casseagull @chrisbegley @lanastewart I redid the number. $58 now. I had the square footage wrong. 😑

@casseagull @lanastewart the whole thing is needlessly complex and time consuming for employees that are not used to keeping track of these expenses. And the staff costs to produce all those T2200 forms - shakes head.

@lanastewart Maybe they're doing it to show us how much easier it is to just submit and go to the office.
