Thanks, but I should be fine. My house is elevated about 4 meters from the water level, so I should be reasonably safe from fuel oil washing up on the edge.
@nyrath holy cow, that is awful. From what I'm reading now it sounds like the power went out on the ship and it drifted into the support pylon - imagine being crew on the ship, knowing what is about to happen and not being able to stop it. It's terrible that people have died but at least it didn't happen during the day when it would have been very busy! This is going to have a lot of knock-on effects too...
No kidding. Baltimore is screwed.
It will be a long time before the bridge bits can be dredged out of the river. Until then, no ships can enter, and the few ships in the harbor are trapped.
Interstate trucking would hit the beltway, and exit from the bridge. The only way left are the two tunnels, and they are forbidden to hazmat cargo.
