Within an hour of last week’s deadly attack on Moscow's #CrocusCityHall, a blame game started. #TheGlobalJigsaw tracks the narratives and the counter-narratives underpinned by generous doses of disinformation.

#Russian officials, state media and pro-#Kremlin channels pointed the finger of blame at #Ukraine , downplaying or ignoring the Islamic State #ISIS group’s claim of responsibility.

Vladimir #Putin said the attack was carried out by radical Islamists but the question was who ordered it.
#Ukraine has strongly denied any connection to the #CrocusCityHall attack. President #Zelensky said: “Putin will try to turn such a situation to his personal advantage again. Everything is absolutely predictable.”
A parallel conspiracy among anti-Putin commentators, including #Ukrainian officials, accuses the Russian authorities.

The false flag operation theory goes back to the 1999 Moscow apartment bombings which some say had been orchestrated by the #FSB to justify the war in #Chechnya
In the meantime, the Islamic State group #ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said #Russia was targeted because of its past and ongoing "war on Muslims" in various countries and that it was a present for #Putin on his reelection.

martinvermeer,

@fulelo The false-flag theory for the apartment bombings is most probably the truth, though there was (for obvious reasons) never a proper investigation.

@martinvermeer and some journos who tried to investigate it ended up dead.

We don't say in the pod it is not true, we say the current disbelief in the anti-Putin camp and shoving it into the FSB's shoes is based on these uninvestigated claims from 1999

Another fallout from the horrific #CrocusCityHall attack in #Moscow: just in the first two days following g it, Human Rights defenders have received more than 2000 reports of abuses against Central Asians in #Russia.
Millions are working there, earning a living for their families back home. #Remittances account for a staggering 50.9% of the GDP of #Tajikistan
