upmultimedia, Closest I get to a library that is "load bearing" is pygltflib, my python lib that handles 3D data in the GLTF format
It gets 40,000 downloads a month (mostly bots doing automated builds I suspect)
Mainly used by researchers for 3D proof-of-concepts (fads come and go -- image recognition, drone vision, NFTs, gaussian splatting, text-to-3D)
Maintenance is 4 days a year. Would I trust lives on it or use it in a corporate setting? Maybe? It's pretty clean and not far off industry best practices
