I haven't been drinking any beer lately, so I've been drinking ginger beer (and ale). I've been looking for one I like and, in the process, I've tried several different kinds. I thought I'd post my thoughts here. Microblogging at its finest
I'll start with a good one: I've really enjoyed this local-ish brand, Sioux City. It has a sweet start and a spicy finish. It manages to maintain a very well-struck balance between the two. I'll be getting this one again, for sure! 👍👍
Honestly, I'm not sure how much ginger is actually in this one... The best thing I can say about it is that it tastes like the brown Bottle Caps candies, and those are the worst ones. There's no kick to be found here. I'm definitely avoiding this one in the future if possible 👎
This is my current go-to. It's got decent flavor and decent spice. It doesn't hurt that it's readily available and somewhat affordable. It might not be as good as Sioux City, but it's still pretty good. Definitely worth a try. 7/10 ginger... roots? Cloves? Whatever 👍

Absolutely not. Far too sweet with no spice that I could detect. And... do I taste lime?! This isn't a freaking Moscow mule. I had no expectations and yet I was disappointed all the same 👎👎
"Golden Ginger Beer" by Rocky Mountain Soda Co., found at Whole Foods
This one took me by surprise a little bit. It's sweet and spicy (like a good ginger beer should be), but there's also an earthy, rooty flavor that I really enjoy. It reminds me of my grandma's house after she harvested her garden and started canning stuff. I'll definitely get this one again if I can. In fact, I may have found a new favorite 👍👍
Not bad. I was hoping for more spice than it has. In fact, it's very, very sweet. It might be for somebody, but it's not for me. Still, it would work in a pinch if there was nothing else around 👍
"Ginger Ale" by Canada Dry, found pretty much everywhere
The quotes around ginger ale above aren't meant to be sarcastic, but it works here. This is just Sprite in a fancy jacket. Is this some kind of elaborate practical joke? Anyway, it's bad. Not recommended for... well, anything really 👎👎
