@ben@bloor suspect the current government would not defer EV VED, hopefully the next government will be saner. Don't understand why they don't apply the same banding to all diesels, regardless of their age though.
OTOH, I'm not a fan of "fixed cost" taxes like this - we drive an EV almost all the time, but also run a 20 year old diesel van, which only does about 1000 miles / year to the beach and back, but the VED is eyewatering. Replacing it wouldn't be environmentally sound.
@steve@bloor Agreed, but the alternative is probably some sort of pay-by-mile system which people are (rightly, IMO) suspicious of.
There doesn't seem to be a "good" solution (rolling it into fuel would have made sense before EVs, but it's currently more complicated with them) and people don't like change even if it costs them :(
Had it almost a year now. Done about 6000-7000 miles. Happy with it. Not my most luxurious vehicle ever, but for the dough, pretty amazing value. And actually (being RWD) not a bad drive at all.
@bloor That was pretty much on our shortlist (me and my partner disagree on whether the hot orange option is epic or terrible). Glad to hear you're not regretting it, the value for money is quite astounding.
@ross It will depreciate massively if you buy new. But I think that is the case with anything; EV or not. It basically was the cheapest "somewhat long range" EV I could buy new with a warranty. And so I ended up in a white one; cheapest colour. I actually think the orange looks pretty good. Reminiscent of the Ford Focus RS.
One thing to say is that the ER (extended range) version is meant to be even better; obv higher range but a bit more power/torque. But still RWD. May be worth looking at.
