I haven't used Twitch outside of iOS in a long time. It's gotten a lot worse. Some pretty stupid keyboard usage and associated hints that make no sense if you have any idea how screen readers actually work, and at least with NVDA and Firefox, activating the chat tab seems to not work. The unlabeled button to open the player--and its subsequent disappearance after a few seconds--is the icing on the cake. You can tell there's lots of development work going into the accessibility and absolutely 0 testing.
@ElementalEcho It's pretty good on iOS. Web is where it's bad. I was saying that I haven't been using it outside of iOS, so I hadn't noticed all the regressions.
@simon Oh it's a complete non-starter in firefox accessibility/keyboard wise, you have to use chromium to have anything at all, even if it isn't great. I was able to interact with the chat and could handle that and the player by navigating by landmark.
@x0@simon I was always annoyed by all the fucking screen reader announcements edge gives you. Loading page! Page loaded! Downloading file! File downloaded! Notification from website! Mew mew mew! Go away.
@FluidEscence@x0 I find them somewhat useful, compared to other browsers which give no feedback whatsoever. But I do wish they'd give us the option of just having navigation sounds instead. Bring back the old IE sound events.
@x0 Urgh. I wonder why it's broken in Firefox? That suggests they're serving different content to Firefox and Chrome, or at least using non-standard JS. Which I guess I'm not surprised by, given the Chrome monoculture. @simon
@x0 Still, if you're ever willing to provide full details, steps to repro, etc., it's probably worth getting a web compatibility issue filed so we can at least try to advocate or see if there's anything we can work around. See webcompat.com. @simon
@simon wait ...are you sure you have your screen maximized? Player's always open at least on Chromium at least. THings are pretty awful, just haven't seen that particular issue
@zersiax I had the page zoomed in, apparently. That seems to happen by default for some reason. I zoomed out and now there are player controls and an "expand chat" button. I shouldn't need to do that to use a feature, but at least there's a way, I guess?
