@jonah Congrats on being the only person I've seen who's not dead-convinced it will get renewed. I keep telling people: this is THE most expensive show Netflix ever made, and contrary to popular buzz it did NOT get the overwhelmingly warm reception they were expecting (for lots of reasons they should've seen coming). Also: Top 10 means nothing. 1899 was in and out of the Top 10 globally for MONTHS and they still cancelled it.
@nateb Netflix will cancel anything for no reason. I consider their current track record to be about the same as relying on random chance, which is why I avoid getting invested in their shows as much as possible.
@jonah I mean, I'm sure you've seen my constant posts since it came out lmao. It was okay. I was hoping for more, they left a lot on the table, but to be fair I've seen WAY worse adaptations of existing IP before. I'm not saying it should've been word-for-word identical, but there's a lot of stuff I wish they had kept in and I think that's what kept them from really getting the reception they wanted.
@nateb I thought it was good, notably not having any other experience with the franchise, although some of the stuff I've been reading does make me suspect I'll like some stuff from the more faithful Tencent adaptation more. I think I'll end up liking both for different reasons, once I get around to watching it.
There have been so many fantastic sci-fi TV shows that have come out in just the last 5 years alone though, that makes this series definitely not a genre-leading/defining one, which is unfortunate for Netflix.
@nateb side note, I am a little annoyed that the titular problem is actually a four body problem... but I'll let that go because it would've been a less catchy title, and I don't think the science itself is really supposed to hold up to any scrutiny anyways 😆
