@pluralistic I had heard that title many years ago.

I had the feeling it was from a short story in a science fiction collection...?

So I googled and found this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Till_Human_Voices_Wake_Us

Could have been either the Lisa Tuttle story (it's from 1973, I think...?) or the Lewis Shiner story...?

The wikipedia article also had the origin of the phrase: T.S. Eliot
