going out to eat strawberries by myself on 12 different benches each half a km apart

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon That's going to be a lot of strawberries. :blobcatgiggle2:

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie nom nom nom :munch: almost done w them, do u wan the cookie?
also yes I'm having a picnic I think lol

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Mmmm~ Don't mind if I do! Gosh, I haven't eaten fresh berries in a while... Summer can't come fast enough!

When summer finally comes: "Eww, these berries are priced way too high!"

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie STAP LOOKIN AT THE PRICE REEEEEEEEEE
or just look on the grocery's store website they should say if they have cheap stuff!!! that's how I get energy drinks for cheap :ablobgrin:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Strawberries are 7,50 e/kg here currently. However frozen strawberries are 2.50 e/kg so I guess I could get some of those if really want to. These are both imported, Finnish ones cost more.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie ohhhh you are Finnish? I didn't know! nice to meet you btw :blobcatalt:
also frozen ones are only good for smoothies if ur into those, but u kno, susannas may have a lilel strawberries as a treat sometimes :neocat_3c:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Nice to meet you too! Idk frozen berries should be scientifically pretty identical to fresh ones, except they can go a bit mushier when thawed.

I'm not deserving any treats! I did bake bread buns, those are my treat lol

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie yes that's why I tink u should just use frozen ones for smoothies or cooking or sometin and fresh for eating
also show bunssss and treat urself better pls :blobcataww:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Excuse me, just cause I'm a girl doesn't give you the right to demand to see my buns :blobcatgiggle2:

18+ susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon
Fine, have my buns :blobcatblush:

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie WAAAAA homemade entirely? also is it whole wheat? they look great :ablobcatheart: I don't think I'd ever be able to make stuff like this

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Not whole wheat, just the basic ass wheat flour. I do use instant oatmeal flakes to give them more texture and make them little more filling.
So basically:
3 mugs of wheat flour
1 mug of warm water
one packet of dry yeast (5 g?)
around 1 mug of instant oatmeal flakes (I don't measure this)
around half a mug of vegetable oil (I don't measure this)

If the dough is too sticky add some wheat or oil depending which kind of sticky. If it is too dry or flaky add some warm water. Knead the dough to a big ball till it doesn't stick to the bowl and "sucks" any leftover dough sticking on the walls.
Let it rest under a lid and a towel.

It takes around 45-60mins for the dough to be ready. Roll the big dough ball around the bowl a bit again. Grab a palm-sized amount of dough from the big ball and circle your palms against it to form a "disc" and put it on the oven shelf thingie (use oven paper or whatever non-stick stuff under it obviously). It slowly expands to a more bun shape from the disc.
Rinse and repeat.

I then bake the buns in around 200 C oven till they look golden. Easy as pie. Or well, actually way easier than pie imo.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie have you tried using butter instead of oil? also I once made some type of bread with kefir and butter and it was so good ngl. I think I'll try ur recipe soon since I need (to be) bred either way xddddddd

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon I've tried with butter and milk, obviously those work too but they make it exponentially more expensive (and need to carry milk from the store vs tap water).
The yellow room temperature veggie oil (sunflower or rapeseed oil or a mix of both) is imo the best kind of oil/fat to use in cooking. Healthy and cheap and doesn't need a fridge.

Edit: you can of course put both milk and water in it. You are cooking, not drinking it so mixing doesn't make it icky. So if have some old/soon to be old milk can just throw it in. However since milk is thicker you need more of it or add in water if needed.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie japanis milk bread tho mmmmmm~
btw you sound like you could easily turn vegan tbh :blobcatthinking: have you thought about it before or is it too much hassle or not interested? I personally would try to be vegan just for the brag but idk if I could give up chikin

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon I honestly don't care. I'm pretty much vegetarian right now due to meat prices, but I am not saying no to free food. If I'd be rich I'd eat meat too so that's that.

I don't personally think "going vegan" is that important. We aren't supposed to be here just to suffer.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie I know it's not that important I would just do it to tell everyone that I'm vegan xdddddd just like I do with pork. for a year I've gone without eating any sort of pig meat and I don't have any Muslim affiliation so ya. what's your cheapest and best tasting food that you always make?

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon But why though? Life isn't a competition about who screams the loudest. I guess you also unironically use Arch, btw just to say that? :blobcatgiggle2:

Pork is healthy and at least here as humanely produced as any other meat. There is nothing scientific making pork any worse than cow meat other than some people's religious beliefs.

You can put a hindu and a muslim in a buffet table, serve pork and beef and watch the mayhem. Meanwhile I'm perfectly happy mixing both of those on the same plate.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie I do use arch just in the form of endeavor os but I rarely go on it bc I play genshin :meow3cSmirk:
also I used to eat pork but someone woke me up a little abt it and combined with the awful experiences I've had with growing them myself and the fact I had to witness them being slaughtered and all that just made me completely ditch it. I don't really want it anymore plus I think it's kinda too fatty and has cholesterol? but idk abt that ehe :neocat_shy:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Suit yourself. I'm just saying I am not one to do something just because it is trendy or so I can say to people I do X.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie I kno I don't really do it either, I don't eat pork because of past experiences and I use arch because I didn't know what else to use lmao :blobcatgoogly:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon We have a popular Christmas song about having a pig, feeding it, watching it grow and wondering where it had vanished while eating ham at the Christmas table. :blobcatgiggle2:

I'm pretty much desensitized to animals suffering/dying. Shit happens. Doesn't mean I want bad stuff to happen to animals, but I am not losing sleep over it. (I've seen plenty of pets die. Cue Circle of Life).

18+ nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie xdddd do Finnish people also eat pork for Christmas? is that traditional?
also I think I'm the opposite I don't care about people sufferring (that much obv I still care abt friends or when it involves torture) but I do care about animals sufferring, like some of those monkey torture vids or other animals from south east Asia

18+ susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon Yes, Christmas ham is traditional. That is the whole half-ass in the oven like in the attachment. We also eat graved salmon, rice porridge (in the morning usually) and bunch of casseroles.
Wikipedia apparently has an English article about it:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joulup%C3%B6yt%C3%A4

Christmas is traditionally a gluttony holiday here in Finland.

nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@susie HOLY SHIT GLÖGI :hyperblobcat:
I fuck hard with glögi we also have it and it's so good idk what you guys put traditionally in yours but I do peppercorns and cinnamon and lemon/orange peels. so good bwuh :ablobcatheart:
also I make sweet rice porridge almost weekly does it mean I'm celebrating Christmas every week xddd

Jain,
@Jain@blob.cat avatar
nyamoon,
@nyamoon@mk.absturztau.be avatar

@Jain @susie and then he went for a sauna session and a skinny dipping in a random lake :nkobiglaugh:

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@nyamoon @Jain Sauna and skinny dipping is mandatory to gain a citizenship. :ablobcat3dverified: I do not suggest swimming while drunk though. We get "tons" of drownings during summer holidays for a reason...

Jain,
@Jain@blob.cat avatar

@susie @nyamoon where i live we do have boats for that...

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain @nyamoon You mean "hey, let's see who wins and stays aboard the boat if we both stand and kick it from side to side" -devices? :blobcatgiggle2: Here people manage to drown even while rowing on a peaceful lake...

Jain,
@Jain@blob.cat avatar

@susie @nyamoon no, it is usual thing here to float down the river with a certain amount of beer and a rubber boats...

Jain,
@Jain@blob.cat avatar

@susie @nyamoon and yes of course people die, between 2015-2023 it was around 51 people

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain @nyamoon Oh, we do that too! I think only during one week though. Funnily enough no one ever drowns there (I think), maybe because they are always packed with people?

It is sadly a common thing to host polls on midsummer's day about how many Finns die or get hurt in accidents on A) on ground, B) on water and C) in traffic. I don't think there ever has been a year where nothing happens.

Jain,
@Jain@blob.cat avatar

@susie @nyamoon we dont have polls here, thats a cruel... and sadly it mostly affects people who are unfamiliar with the area, for example if they have holidays or so...

susie,
@susie@blob.cat avatar

@Jain @nyamoon Here "everyone" does it. It is kinda gruesome and sad that knowing well enough that accidents are more common in that day everyone still goes on trips (and maybe drink a little). I guess it is the "I am not a bad driver" or "lol idiots drowning when could swim" attitude that catches people off guard.

Yes, guys are way more likely to cause the accidents or be the ones drowning, go figure lol
