@daringfireball I remember back when AirPods first came out, I used a dumb Nokia at work. It still had bluetooth and the AirPods worked perfectly with it, even for taking calls!

@daringfireball @gruber Not only is screen time too easy to disable, it’s just woefully bad and too limited as a parental control tool and Apple doesn’t seem interested in fixing it.

Just plain intuitive things it should be able to do (like block an app instead of limiting it to one minute) it can’t do. I’ve even walked into an Apple and asked how to do it, they say it it’s easy let me show you, then realize it’s not possible.

It’s also buggy. So buggy sometimes.

mikeagore,

@daringfireball Does anyone really want a dumbphone? In addition to your point about AirPods and music, I never want to give up Maps, or Find My Friends, or texting on the iPhone keyboard vs. a numeric keypad.

But I think there is some real demand for a less connected experience. Not necessarily in a huge market sense, just in the “I wish I spent less time on my phone sense.” I would love to see Apple take another swing at providing this on the iPhone.

@daringfireball I think there has been an untapped market for elder phones- touch screen phones you could set up in the most minimalist ways with only necessary info and the fewest steps to make or recieve a call. Big picture buttons for frequently called numbers, on home screen lock screen, message tab. Beyond time and date almost NO visible apps or visual clutter.

Should be a mode on iPhone and Android, neither of which will give up the display of dozens of Apps on a Home Screen.

chasedmartin,

@daringfireball There are a lot of days where I've very tempted to go to a phone like the Light Phone. I realize how bad my phone is for my attention and I don't like it. Forcing myself to be more present while also not giving up the most important features of a phone are pretty enticing.
