@travisfw@evan that 3-way split is about who's in charge (king, nobles, [all] people). It's a few-many axis essentially.
Other good axes to slice the pie along include:
a technocracy-ideology axis (how China has moved on that axis over last few decades is fascinating).
a force-persuasion axis (whoever's got the power, do they keep it more out of murdoch media type persuasion, or N. Korea type fear of brute force?)

Like most oversimplifications, one could use it as a classification system, but will it be useful?
Both capitalist representative democracies and communist people's republics could be described as democracy+aristocracy hybrids, and yet this was the big politcal tension of the 20th century. So I think the details mattered.
