@dav1d I would probably say there are multiple (potentially) infinite sets of programming languages:
Generally known programming languages that are currently in use
Generally known programming languages that are not currently in use
Generally unknown programming languages (example: a programming language that was created by one person as a hobby, a project, or a thesis) that are currently in use
Generally unknown programming languages that are not currently in use
Unknown programming languages that were created but never documented in public (example: known to one person because it was a custom variant for a machine that was special one-off)
Unknown programming languages that were created and documented, but lost in an archive
