Welp, guess I should get out of bed. I have to walk down to the auto parts store to get a rear wheel bearing & hub assembly for my car. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to install. Removing the old one took several hours though. I wish manufacturers would put a little grease on mating surfaces where rust occurs over time. And stupid auto parts stores these days have far too many choices of parts. I don't know which is good & which isn't. I'd go to the dealership but it's too far to walk.

@bhhaskin Well, not really. At least it got me home and didn't leave me stranded far off road in the canyons of Utah or even on some remote road in between Utah and Reno, Nevada, where I live. On my recent journey I came a cross a couple on a remote road between Utah and Colorado who had broke an automatic transmission cooler hose. Probably the transmission was okay but the tow bill, hose replacement, &c., wasn't going to be cheap.

@bhhaskin I've been fortunate. I've never been stranded, except for one time when I let a friend drive my Bronco & he got it stuck in mud. But I'm getting worried about my old Subaru. Nearly 200k miles on it. Still runs good. I'd like to get something newer, like a truck again, but they are all so stupid big & impractical. And cars all have CVTs, which, I read, will just blowup after 100k miles leaving you stranded somewhere. At least older transmissions give you some warning there's a problem.

@elaterite then of course the rescue truck got stuck xD

@bhhaskin God I hate mud! I lived in the hills of Southern Humboldt County, California, back in the late '70s. Sometimes it would rain for a month straight in the winter. OMG, the mud. I helped so many people get their trucks unstuck, and that was back when four wheel drive was rare. Most trucks were old 1/2 ton peg-legs. But fortunately the Coast Range mud wasn't nearly as bad as our infamous Nevada gumbo. I'm not familiar with the Carson sump. Where is that?

@elaterite ah sorry it's also know as the Carson sink: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carson_Sink

@bhhaskin Ah, okay. Ya, I driven the road between Winnemucca and Stillwater a couple of times. Never gone out on the playa, though.
