i presumed the use of “the” here implied some level of cohesive organization, like one might be able to point to orgs showing up at protests and say “hey maybe don’t hang with these losers”. it’s a blanket statement, that’s what threw me off.
of course there are bigots with socialist trappings. that was never in contention.
