It would be useful to see journalists collecting clips of the claims and promises made by politicians during an election campaign, then comparing that against what they're saying and doing in government or opposition, 3-6 months into the new term. I mean literally putting the before clip next to the after clip, so people can decide for ourselves how consistent they are.

@strypey Rush Limbaugh used to do that all the time on his old 90s TV show. It was breathtaking, Bill Clinton lies when he doesn't even have to, he just lies about everything, things that don't matter.
@strypey Robert Reich was particularly bad, he flipped on any statement as soon as, presumably, he got his marching orders. Inflation? Not happening. New administration? They needs to do something about that inflation. Flips back to democrats? No problem again.
@strypey I'm not picking on Democrats, Republicans do it too, I think the Daily Show used to show "dueling politicians" clips where the same politician is edited having a debate with themself. They did that for Romney.

Jon Stewart's Daily Show was great. But when comedians end up as the only ones doing things like this, it's a sign that political journalists are not doing their job properly.
