In 2016, I raised money for a bench for my oldest boy Ryan on the Persian Gulf tribute at The Highground Veterans Memorial Park in Neillsville, Wisconsin. The tribute was dedicated on 23 July, 2016, the 10th anniversary of the final time I ever heard my son say “I love you, dad” when he called from Scania, Iraq. He was KIA about a week later and two weeks from coming home. Hug those close to you. As Tom Cochrane sang “You never can tell when you might check out.”
