@scott I feel like I get pushback every time I try to mention how the implementation of parklets (instead of the mere conception of parklets) has been a private sector annexation of public space, but there's so much evidence of it.

@meganL @scott In Melbourne the parklets are always situated in car parking spaces, which seems a win-win to me.

@timrichards @scott I'm not complaining about street auto parking being made into something else. I'm complaining about the public space being treated as private restaurant space - often inaccessible, often hostile to houseless people, etc.

@timrichards @meganL Yeah I mean, that space used to be a parking space, so it's one less car. In a way I agree that's beneficial for mode shift as far as it goes, but... walking down sidewalks where there's locked parklet after locked parklet after locked parklet, so that the sidewalk is walled in on both sides, is not pleasant, and I think part of why Valencia Street (where that is) has become less fun, honestly.

@scott @meganL Ah I didn't initially see the parking space lines, assumed it was taking up sidewalk. I see what you mean about it being unwelcoming.
